Change your windows 8 local user picture

Hi, you're watching VisiHow, and today we're going to show you how to change your account picture on a Windows 8 local user account. This is different from an account that's connected to a Microsoft or Microsoft Outlook, Hotmail, or Live account, which many people have, as it's specific to the actual machine. Generally speaking we recommend that you have an online account as opposed to a local account, as it makes recovery of a lost password, or a locked system significantly easier than if you simply have a local account. However, for the purposes of today's tutorial, we're just going to focus on a local account.

   To get started, the first thing we're going to do is press our Windows key

   Windows key is going to bring up the Windows tile screen, and it will also show us our use account name, which is where we'll change the picture.

   I've just pressed the Windows key

   As you can see, we've got the Start option and the general sets of Windows tiles.

   Over here on the right we have VisiHow, which is our account name

   What we're going to do is go ahead and click this - one click on VisiHow

   That should open it. If you're on a touchpad then you can just touch that as well. We're going to go right here to "Change account picture." That's going to open up a new window where you can change your account picture.

   Here you can see that VisiHow is a local account

   If you want to have access to an online account, you can connect to or create a Microsoft account. That's something that we'll do later in another tutorial.

   For now, click on Browse

   .

   When I click on browse, that's going to open up the Photos area, so any pictures or images that you have on screen are going to immediately show up.

   In this case, if you have something that's not on your camera roll, you're going to want "Go up."

   We'll click Go Up and I'm going to click on Desktop, and here's the photo I'm going to use

   I've clicked that photo - you can see the checkmark on the right-hand side

   This is my Visi image. Then you go over here and "Choose Image."

    Now we'll go ahead and click on the Back button for Accounts

    Many times if you see here I'll go up to the right-hand corner, you can very easily close Windows

    Just up in the right it pops up, or you can minimize it. But for our purposes I'm going to go ahead and go back.

    Now as you can see we've got a picture password, account picture, lock screen, and a whole set of other options
