Hello, and welcome to VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to change the style of subtitles using the YouTube application on the HTC One M8.
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on the top of the phone. Once the phone has been activated, we will see the lock screen.
To unlock the phone, swipe the screen upwards. Once the phone has been unlocked we will see the home screen and multiple icons at the bottom. It is one of these icons that we now need to access to open up the applications folder.
Tap the icon that looks like a grid of white dots, that is located at the bottom of the screen in the middle.
Find the YouTube application, and tap on it once to open the application. The YouTube application icon looks like a red button with a white triangle inside, with "YouTube" written underneath. Your YouTube application may be in a different position in this folder, therefore you will need to find it.
Now, we need to find the settings menu by tapping on the icon in the top-right that looks like three small black dots in a vertical line. This will open up a small menu. In this example, there are issues with the internet connection, but it will not affect the tutorial at all.
Tap on "Settings", which is the first option in the menu. Now we will have our settings menu open.
Now tap on "Captions". Here we will see our captions menu.
Tap on the option at the bottom that says "Subtitles style" with "White on black" in grey underneath to open up more options. This means that "White on black" is the option currently selected. At the top, we can see the captions and subtitles with white writing on a black background.
Tap on a specific style to change the subtitles to that style. The selected option here is "White on black" and is indicated by the green circle. We can change it to "Black on white", "Yellow on black", or "Yellow on blue". In this example, we'll choose "Yellow and blue". Now we can see that the background of the subtitles have changed, but it still looks like it has white writing.
Tap on "Subtitles style" again.
Now we'll tap on "Customised", which is the option that gives us the most choices. This will open up an extensive list of options.
We can tap on "Font family" to change more settings.
Tap on a specific font to change our subtitles to that font. In this example, we'll tap on "Proportional Serif". Now we can see that the font is different.
Tap on "Text color" to change the color of the text.
Tap on any color to change the option. In this example, we'll tap on green. Now we can see our text has changed to green.
We can also tap on "Text opacity", "Edge type", "Background color", "Background opacity", or "Window color". So we can see there are plenty options to choose from, including "Customised" in the subtitle style. We can customise the captions and subtitles in a way that is right for us.
This concludes our tutorial on how to change the style of subtitles using the YouTube application on the HTC One M8.
