Steps

    Start by pressing the Power button located on the top of your phone
    .
    Once the phone is activated, we will see the Lock screen.

    To unlock the phone, hold down on the screen until you see a padlock icon and then swipe up
    .
    Once the phone has been unlocked, we will see the Home screen. What we need to do now is find the Settings menu.

    To find the Settings menu, swipe the Notifications panel down
    .
    To do that press down at the top of the screen, hold down, then swipe down.

    Click on the icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen

    It is a white gear icon. That is the Settings icon. Press down on it, and it will open up the Settings menu.

    Scroll down until you get to the "PHONE" section

    The word "PHONE" will be on the far right-hand side of the screen inside a gray bar. Directly underneath that will be the words "Display & gestures." Next to these words is an icon that looks like a phone.

    Press down on "Display & gestures"

    That will take us into the "Display & gestures" options.

    We are looking for the "Screen timeout" option
    .
    Underneath this it currently says, "Auto sleep". Press on this, and it will take us to the "Screen timeout" menu. The screen timeout time is the period of time it takes for the screen of the HTC One M8 to sleep or turn itself off. There is a variety of options, ranging from fifteen seconds all the way up to one hour. The selection depends very much on personal preference.

    If you like the phone to stay turned on and not time out, select a longer amount of time such as "1 hour." This will ensure that the phone doesn't time out for a very long time

    If you like the phone to time out very quickly, choose something shorter such as "15 seconds." The shorter times save battery life because when the screen times out, it uses less of the battery's power

    The longer it stays turned on, the more battery it uses. That is very important to remember when making a choice.
