Edited by Thor, Rushell, Jen M
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to change keyboard types on an HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, let's turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on top of the phone
.
2
Once the phone has been activated, we'll see the lock screen
.
3
To unlock the phone, press down on the screen, hold down until two padlock icons appear, then swipe up
.
4
Once the phone has been unlocked, we will see the Home screen
.
At the bottom, we will see a row of several icons. What we want to do in this video is demonstrate how to change the keyboard type. First, we'll just look at the keyboard to see what type we currently have. We currently have QWERTY set up, and this is one of the most common keyboard types. It refers to the order of the letters on the keyboard and where they are.
5
Let's open the Messages section by tapping on the second icon at the bottom of the screen
.
It is a white speech rectangle with three horizontal green lines in it. Press down on that.
6
Now, press on a chat or conversation to open it
.
7
Tap on "Add text" at the bottom of the screen
.
This will make the keyboard appear at the bottom of the screen.
8
This is the QWERTY keyboard because it has the letters Q, W, E, R, T, Y across the top
.
This is the current style. We may want to change this.
9
To do that, first press the arrow facing down on the bottom left
.
10
Next, tap on the curved arrow on the bottom left two times to return to the Home screen
.
Now, we need to find the Settings menu, and to do that we need to swipe the Notification panel down.
11
Press down at the top of the screen, hold down, and swipe down
.
This will make the Notification panel appear.
12
We are looking for the icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen
.
It is a white cog, and this is the Settings icon. Press down on this to open the Settings menu.
13
We can see it says the word "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen
.
14
Scroll down to the "PHONE" section, as indicated by the word "PHONE" in the gray bar
.
15
Scroll down a bit more to "Language & keyboard"
.
To the left of those words, there is an icon with a capital "A" inside a 3D square. Press down on this section, and it will open up the "Language & keyboard" menu.
16
We are now looking for the "HTC Sense Input" option
.
Below this it says, "Keyboard options".
17
On the next screen, we want the first option at the top, "Keyboard selection", which says, "Choose keyboard type and language"
.
Press down on that. This brings up another menu.
18
We want the first option again, "Keyboard types", "Standard (QWERTY)"
.
As we have just seen when we looked at the keyboard, we have the QWERTY type set up. Press down on this, and it's going to give us four options.
19
We have four different "Keyboard types" to choose from, which include "Standard (QWERTY)", "Standard (AZERTY)", and "Standard (QWERTZ)"
.
These are just different versions of keyboards. The letters will be in different positions. Some people will prefer one to another. There is also "Phone", which is the standard phone keyboard where there are three letters on one square.
20
We can see that "QWERTY" is selected because it has the green circle there on the right side
.
21
We can press down on any of the options to change the keyboard type
.
Let's choose "Phone".
22
Now, the word "Phone" appears under "Keyboard types" at the top of the screen, as this is the current option that is selected
.
23
Then let's go back to the Home screen by pressing the Home screen button, which is the little white house icon located at the bottom of the screen
.
24
Now, we'll press down on the Message icon at the bottom of the screen again
.
25
We can open a chat again by pressing on the name
.
26
Again, press down on "Add text"
.
27
Now, we can see that the keyboard has been changed to the phone style
.
To change the keyboard type back to QWERTY, or change it to another type, follow the same procedure.
28
This concludes our tutorial on how to change keyboard types on an HTC One M8
.
