Press on the first option in that section that says, "Flash notifications"
    .
When we receive a notification on the HTC One M8, the screen will flash if this option is turned on. It will emit light, and it is a way of alerting and notifying us that we have received a notification. Obviously, if we have a sound effect set up, such as a ringtone or message notification tone, then we'll have an audio notification.

To set up flash notifications, we can choose between two options

"Always" means the screen will always flash when a notification is received.

Alternatively, we can choose for the screen to flash only "When screen is off"
    .
This implies that if the screen is on, we are probably looking at our phone. If the screen is off we are probably not looking at the phone. Choosing the section option will save some battery because it uses less energy by not flashing all the time, but only when the screen is off.
