Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to change the default search provider when using Internet Explorer on a Microsoft Lumia 535.
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on the right-hand side of the phone.
Swipe the lock screen up to enter the Home screen.
We want to use the internet, just to show you what search provider is currently being used on this phone. One way to do that is to tap the search icon, the magnifying glass at the bottom right corner of the screen.
Alternatively, you can press the Internet Explorer tile if you have that on your Home screen. It's the tile with a lowercase E on it.
Now, we have the option to browse or search. Type in something to search for, and then press the right-facing arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen.
As you can see, the default search engine is Google.
Tap on the left arrow at the bottom left of the screen to go back to the Home screen.
If I want to change the default search engine, first I need to swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notifications panel.
Next, we need to press on All Settings at the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
On the Settings screen, swipe from left to right to get to the applications settings.
Tap on Internet Explorer, which is the second option from the top.
On the next screen, scroll down until you see advanced settings and press that button.
Scroll down on the next screen as well. You will see Default search provider. For my phone it is set to Google.
Tap on the box below Default search provider, and you will be given a list of search engines to choose from. The options provided will be based on your location. You may have national or international search engines.
I want to change my search engine to Bing, so I'm going to tap on that.
Now, that has been done, so I can press the left arrow a few times to go back to my Home screen.
Let's see if our changes have taken effect. Press the Internet Explorer tile. Type something into the search box and tap the right arrow at the bottom right corner. Now, you can see that the search engine is now Bing.
Because Cortana is activated on this phone, it kind of brought us into a hybrid Cortana-Bing web search engine. It says Bing at the top.
However, it also gives us the ability to speak to Cortana by pressing the microphone at the bottom right corner. As our personal assistant, she is our guide to searching on the internet.
This concludes our tutorial on how to change your default search provider when using Internet Explorer on a Microsoft Lumia 535. If you have any questions or suggestions about this video, then please leave them in the comment section below. You've been watching VisiHow.
