Carve a Traditional Jack O'lantern for Halloween

Don't want a spend money on buying a jack-o'-lantern for Halloween? No worries! As long as you have a spare pumpkin at home, you can create one by yourself. Just follow the steps below to make one:

Materials

    A spare large pumpkin (you may also choose a large rutabaga)

    A large spoon, preferably metal

    A sharp knife

    A string or metal wire

    A metal skewer

    A candle

Instructions

    Start with making a lid by cutting a circle around the top of the pumpkin

    Make sure that you use a sharp knife to cut it, so that you won't break or damage the entire pumpkin.

    Remove the insides of the pumpkin

    You may want to use a large spoon in removing the insides. Do not throw them away, as you can also cook them to make a delicious treat later on.

    Carve a face on the pumpkin

    You may use your sharp knife again to carve a face on the outside part of the pumpkin. Make sure that it will look a lot scarier for Halloween. Like they say, the uglier the pumpkin, the better!

    Make a handle

    Use your metal skewer in making a hole on the left and ride side on the upper corner of the pumpkin. Afterward, attach a string or a metal wire into the holes from left to right or vice versa to make a handle.

    Place a candle inside the pumpkin

    Last but not least, place a candle inside the pumpkin, light it, and cover it with the lid you make.

    Now you have your own traditional jack-o'-lantern
