Care for a Brooks Leather Saddle
Edited by Thor, Crystal, Eng
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. Today I'm going to show you how to proof and protect a Brooks leather saddle that is currently being used on a touring bicycle. The reason we proof the Brooks leather saddle, is because the leather can be damaged by rain or other weathers, and proofing it helps to give it extra strength to keep its shape. This is very important because if the leather expands and weakens then it becomes very loose and very inadequate for what its purpose is.
Steps
- 1
- 2You don't want to apply too much, just enough to make a thin coat across the leather. You can also proof the underside of the saddle. Continue this way until the entire saddle is covered in the substance. It is recommended that you use the official substance provided by Brooks, as other substances may not be suitable or as efficient for the saddle. What you do, is take a little bit of the substance and, using your finger or a cloth, you're going to evenly spread it out all across the saddle.
- 3Afterwards, use a cloth to remove any remaining or left over material. You should proof your saddle once every six months in order to maintain its structural integrity and to continue protecting it.When you're finished proofing the saddle you can leave it to dry and for the substance to soak into the leather.
- 4If you have any questions or comments, or if you have anything to add then feel free to leave them in the comment section below. This is how to protect and proof your Brooks leather saddle.
