For Samsung Galaxy S4, S5, Note3, and some other models, emoji are pre-installed. Press the home button. Navigate to "Apps" > "Settings" > "Personal" > "Language and Input". Under Keyboards and input methods, you can set your default keyboard. To enable keyboard like "Samsung keyboard", just tap the checkbox next to it. Now, when typing texts, if you see an icon to the left of the space bar, tap and hold it. You will see a series of icons popping up. Select the one with a smiling face. Other keyboards may have the smiling face in the lower-right corner. Tap on it to open emoji emotion icons. If you see none, then you can only type ASCII smileys (such as ":-)") without downloading anything.
