Instead of manually downloading the photos and videos, wouldn't you rather automatically save photos and videos from Facebook Messenger? Well, the good news is - you can! And this how to guide will show you how to do that.

Please note: Android and iOS devices that run Facebook Messenger will vary slightly in the settings on being able to save photos and videos automatically. Android devices can only automatically save photos, whereas iOS devices can only automatically save videos.

Let's start with Android devices first.

Automatically Save Photos from Facebook Messenger Using Android

Unfortunately, you can't automatically save videos using the Facebook Messenger app on Android, you can, however, still automatically save photos. Here's how:

    To start, look for the Facebook Messenger icon. It is a white and blue icon with white lightning inside of it. Give it a single tap to open the app.

    Tap on the profile picture near the top right-hand area of your device's screen.

    Next, locate and tap on the "Photos & Media" option.

    To save photos automatically that you receive in Messenger, tap on the slider beside "Save Photos" to turn this option on.

    If you want to save photos you take inside Messenger, tap on the slider beside "Save on Capture".

Automatically Save Videos from Facebook Messenger Using iOS

On iOS devices (iPhones, iPads) you can automatically save videos by following the steps below:

    To begin, look for and tap the Facebook Messenger icon. It is a white and blue icon with white lightning inside of it.

    Once inside the Messenger app, tap on your profile picture in the top left-hand area of your screen.

    Next, locate and tap on the "Photos, Videos & Emoji" option.

    Tap on "Download Videos". By default, this option is set to "WiFi only".

    Once you tap on "Download Videos", you can automatically download videos, so they play faster by turning this option "ON". If you don't wish to automatically download videos, you can turn this option "OFF".

Please note by turning this option on, mobile data charges can occur depending on the amount of data you have on your cell phone plan with your current cell phone provider.

I can't download video in Facebook Messenger?

I'm trying to save the video in my gallery on the phone, but there's no option to save it there. There was a save video, but I don't know where it was saved

Once you long press the video and click Save it will be set to where your Videos within your phone are typically stored. It may take a minute to appear depending on whether you are connected to WiFi or not. If it is not saving and you are not connected to WiFi then go into the app settings and change the option to save even if you are not connected to WiFi.
