You are watching VisiHow! This is a tutorial on how to archive files in Windows 7. In order to archive your files, you need an archiving program. Some of the most popular titles are WinRAR, 7-Zip, WinZip, and so on. In this case, we will be using WinRAR.
To make an archive, select the files that you need to compress and right-click on them.
In the new menu, click "Add to archive".
For the simple instructions, just go ahead and click "OK". The new archive will be created in the same folder as the files.
If you want to make an archive with a password. Select the files and right-click on them.
Press "Add to archive" in the new menu.
Go to the "Advanced" tab by clicking "Advanced".
Click "Set password" to open a new window.
In this window, enter the password under "Enter password". I am going to go ahead and enter mine.
In the next field ("Reenter password for verification"), either reenter the password for a verification or tick "Show password".
Tick "Encrypt file names" if you want to hide the contents of the archive until the password is entered. If you do not tick this, then the file list of the archive will be visible; however, you will not be able to access the files themselves without entering the password.
Press "OK" to close this window.
Press "OK" to start compressing your file or files.
Wait for WinRAR to finish the compression. Bear in mind that the bigger the size of the file or files to archive, the longer it takes. It can take several seconds or maybe even hours.
