You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we're going to show you how to apply a "Lens Flare" effect to an image in GIMP in Windows 7.
First, click "Filters" at the top left-hand side of the window.
Then, move the cursor to "Light and Shadow".
Click "Lens Flare.." in the menu that appears. A dialogue box will appear with a preview of the image.
You can click and drag the preview or click the scrollbars and arrows to navigate the preview.
If you cannot see the preview image, ensure that the "Preview" box inside the dialogue window is checked.
You can also click the magnifying glass icons to zoom in and out. The lens flare is in the top-left corner by default.
You can change the position of the flare by clicking where you want it to be in the preview picture.
You can also change the "X" and "Y" position values by typing the coordinates that you want in the boxes. Alternatively, you can click the arrows on the right of each box.
You can also click the units drop-down menu. Then, click the measurement units that you want to use. The size of the flare cannot be changed.
If you are satisfied with your settings, then press "OK" to apply them to your image. A green bar will appear to show that the changes are being applied.
