Apply a Tileable Blur to an Image in the GIMP App

You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we're going to show you how to apply a "Tileable Blur" effect to an image in GIMP in Windows 7.


Steps

    We should have GIMP open and an image ready to use. For more information, refer to our tutorials on how to open GIMP and how to open existing documents in GIMP.

    First, click "Filters". It's on the top-left side of the window.

    Then, move the cursor to "Blur".

    Click "Tileable Blur..." in the menu. A small dialogue box will appear, so that you can begin specifying the settings for the blur.

    First, you can change the "Radius" value. You can do it by dragging the scrollbar left or right or by typing the value into the box.

    Next, you can check or uncheck "Blur Vertically" and "Blur Horizontally".

    Then you can click the "Blur type" drop-down menu. You can click either "IIR" or "RLE". "IIR" is good for noncomputer-generated images, whereas "RLE" is better for computer-generated images.

    When you are satisfied with your changes, simply click "OK". This will apply them to the image. It may take a few minutes to apply the changes, depending on your computer.
