Apply Eyeshadow

Edited by Kara, Rose Najj, Eng, Vanessa

Method 1: with Fingers

Hi, you're watching VisiHow. My name is Kara and in today's video I will show you how to apply your eyeshadow using your fingers. If you happen to be in a situation where you don't have any sponges - any special sponges that normally come together with your eyeshadows - or if you don't have any brushes, then you absolutely have to do your make-up and the only thing you can use are your fingers, then this tutorial is for you.

Steps

  1. 1
Okay, so, when you have to apply eyeshadows with your fingers, you don't want to be using a matte shadows because first they are very difficult to be blended and blushed even with using brushes.

  2. 2
And it will look really bad if you try to apply it with the eyeshadows, so I would recommend you to use shimmery eye shadows. In my case it is a golden palette of bourgeois and khaki colors,

  3. 3
or I could go with this Avon palette which is also shimmery.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  4. 4
So, I think I'll go with this one.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  5. 5
Let's start. So for smaller areas of application, like for the light color, I'm going to be using my smallest finger.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  6. 6
So let's go. I'm taking just a little bit and I'm going to apply on the area under my eyebrows to highlight.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  7. 7
These are the areas that are responsible for opening up your eye and making it bigger. And of course, the inner corner of your eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  8. 8
When applying, don't forget to blend it right there or you might end up with a really big spot.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  9. 9
Okay. The corner of eye is done.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  10. 10
Next thing, I'm going to use the next color - this one.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  11. 11
It's lighter and for this for different colors I'm going to be using different fingers. So this black-khaki color is going on my whole eyelid.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  12. 12
The shimmery colors are good to use when you're not good at blending and brushing. The same thing I'm doing with my other eye, just applying this color all over the eyelid.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  13. 13
Okay, it's done. It's a very slight color. It serves the purpose of a base.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  14. 14
And now, I'm going to use the darkest color on the bottom.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  15. 15
And apply it on the oval part of my eyelid - the area close to my eyelashes. Make sure you blend it up all the way to achieve a deeper color.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  16. 16
See I made an effect of graduation so that there is no straight borders between the light color and the dark color. It is especially important when you're using your fingers. Okay, this one is done. Now, I would like to see how good it is blended.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  17. 17
Okay so now what I have left is this little area under my eyes, sort of the underline.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  18. 18
What I need to do is also apply some eyeshadows there but because of thick fingers I don't want to put too much, so this is what I'm doing. I'm taking some of this eye shadows on the edge basically of the side of my fingers.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  19. 19
And I'm going to be using it under the angle just trying to rub it on the lash line like that.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  20. 20
And with a clean - the only clean finger that I have, this one -
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  21. 21
We're going to blend it up just wipe it off in the direction from the inner corner of your eye to the outside so that eyeshadow is not going to look too rude on you.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  22. 22
And the second eye, the same technique.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  23. 23
And you need to wipe it up.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  24. 24
So, if you would like to complete the look, you're welcome to add an eye-liner. I think I can go with the brown one. In my case it is Maybelline New York.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  25. 25
The brown, actually it's an eyebrow pencil but I use it as an eye-liner a lot of times. I'm going to use a little mirror.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  26. 26
    And the other one.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  27. 27
Okay, so as you can see I have a very light and nice looking without any rude throw out of eyeshadows on my eyes. Let me show you closer.

Method 2: with Brushes

Hi, you are watching VisiHow. My name is Kara, and in this video I will teach you how to apply eyeshadow using eye brushes.

Steps

  1. 1
What I will need here is: 1- A wide and flat brush for the light eye brow for highlighting spots.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  2. 2
2- A short and kind of round brush for applying darker shadow in the wrinkle line.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  3. 3
3- A Big and brown brush for blending up the shadows.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  4. 4
4- A tiny flat brush is for applying the eyeliner.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  5. 5
Let us get started. I am going to use two different pallets.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  6. 6
One is the flat shadow I mean matte shadow; they are also flat when you apply them.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  7. 7
I am going to be using a highlight from Evon pallet, because it is brighter than the basic beige color.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  8. 8
As I said we are going to use the big flat brush for the highlights.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  9. 9
This is how we get the eyeshadow on your brush. Brush once and shake it off, so when you apply the eyeshadow it does not fall off on your face and mess up the makeup.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  10. 10
Just apply the highlight under the eyebrow.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  11. 11
Do the same thing to the other side.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  12. 12
Then apply it in the inner corner of the eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  13. 13
Do so to the other eye in the inner corner of the eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  14. 14
This is the trick you make to do any kind of makeup and any kind of basics that you have to do.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  15. 15
Now I am going to use the matte light Beige color as the base.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  16. 16
Applying the light Beige like that over the whole eyelid up to my eye brow.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  17. 17
Do the same step to the other eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  18. 18
    So the bases is DONE.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  19. 19
Now I am taking my short and round brush and dipping it in the darker color.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  20. 20
You got to roll it to get the color all around the brush sides then shake it off.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  21. 21
Apply it to the wrinkle line. I have hooded eyes, so to be able to apply that color in the wrinkle I need to lift up my eyebrow.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  22. 22
If you eye is not hooded like mine you don't have to do that. You just look straight and basically apply it on your natural wrinkle.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  23. 23
I need to lift my eyebrow, and just repeat the line.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  24. 24
That is what I have here, but it is a very rude job.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  25. 25
I have to immediately blush it up but I don't need this brush.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  26. 26
I take my other pallet which with the shimmery brown color which is very thin color.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  27. 27
I am dipping the brush in and then shaking it off.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  28. 28
Applying it right on the top, and just blending it up.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  29. 29
This is what I have here.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  30. 30
If you think that you didn't get enough over dark shadow, we can repeat the procedure.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  31. 31
Apply it on the wrinkle line with my small brush.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  32. 32
Or For a deeper effect you can go deeper in your eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  33. 33
If your eyes are close to each other, you don't have to add shadows further than the center of your eyes, or visually you might make your eyes look closer than they actually are.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  34. 34
I am blushing up again using the light brown color.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  35. 35
I dipped my big brush in it and I am blending the eyeshadows together.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  36. 36
This is what I have here.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  37. 37
I close my eyes, you can see the difference.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  38. 38
Let us do the same thing with my other eye. I have got some of the dark color.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  39. 39
And again I am getting some of light brown shadow to blend up.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  40. 40
Let us have some of the light color from the light pallet to fix up the mess I made up here.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  41. 41
If you try to fix your makeup with an additional color, you have to do it from both sides of your eyes, or you might end up with different insensitivity of the colors.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  42. 42
So since I have added the light color on this eye lid, I must do the same thing to other eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  43. 43
I am going to do the same thing to the other eye lid even though I have not any problem with it, but just to be safe.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  44. 44
    OK this is DONE.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  45. 45
Let us add some shade in the bottom. So I am going to be using the darker pallet.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  46. 46
Without going too far, just apply it to the corner of the eye and blended it towards the center.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  47. 47
Do the same thing to the other eye. Adding a shadow under your natural lash line allows you to open up your eyes and create an artificial border line, which is bigger than your natural one.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  48. 48
For applying the eye liner you need the small brush.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  49. 49
I think the brown color will look more natural and will match better.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  50. 50
What I am doing is dipping the thin flat brush in the dark shadow.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  51. 51
I am going to apply it by just drawing a line right next to the natural lash line.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  52. 52
I will close me eye, it may need to repeat the procedure several times to have the result you want. You are welcome to use the pencil, but I am showing you the whole procedure using the brushes.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  53. 53
You can see the difference now.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  54. 54
Now to extend the eye a little bit, I am going to draw a line just to open the eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  55. 55
Do the same thing on the other eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  56. 56
You just watched me applying the eyeshadow by using brushes. It is better if you have all kind of brushes, because it will be quite difficult to do this kind of complicated work with the same brush, it will not be possible.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  57. 57
These are four main brushes that you need to have to do the basic makeup, just to apply the classical basic makeup using eyeshadow.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Method 3: with a Wet Brush

Hi, you're watching VisiHow. My name is Kara and in this video, I will show you how to use the eyeshadows - how to apply eyeshadows with wet brush. So let's understand what this means, what brushes do. I have a black and white palette of dry eye-shadow right here.

Was this helpful? Yes | No| I need help

Steps

  1. 1
So by just applying them in the dry way gives me one color, but when I make my brush wet it gives more intensive, more deep, more bright colors. So let's see how it works. First of all, I need to create a base for the eyeshadows. The better base you have, the better you will - the easier it will be to blend up the eyeshadows - blend up the colors.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 2
    And the other eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 3
I am just using my matte eyeshadow mocha coffee palette. Okay, so now I have a shot glass of water right here.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 4
This is where I'm going to make my brush wet.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 5
When you do that please - when you need to make your - when you want to make your brush wet, do not try to lick it or do anything like this because you might end up with bacteria growing in your brush, so you just dip it in the water. Now, I need to use the lighter color.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 6
But when you're working with a wet brush, do not just go crazy over the palette because when you put the moist, the water on it, the next time when you want to use it dry it's not going to be the same any more. It's not going to work for you. So with a wet brush, we'll be using just the corner - like less than a quarter of the eyeshadow.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 7
    And apply it carefully.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 8
    Okay, this side too.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 9
If you can see the eyeshadows look more shiny, have more shimmer, and it's a brighter color. I will show you on the dark sample, so you could see it better. Okay. Now, I'm taking another brush - a big blending brush.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 10
And I will just dip it in the dark color and you can see how the when you apply it dries.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 11
So, it looks black on your palette, but actually when you apply it becomes grey colour. So blend it up all over the eyelid, the areas that you need to blend it.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 12
    This is what you get.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 13
And let's do the same thing with the other side. Go on the wrinkle line, all the way. Blend it up so that there is no spots.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 14
So this what I have here. I applied it using dry brush.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 15
And now you will see what happens when you make your brush wet. I'm dipping this one in the water.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 16
And again, using just the very corner of the black shadows - I don't want them to get bad, I want to be able to use then in future.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 17
Now, look what happens. I have a very deep, very black color right here. And it did not sit well, but I'm going to use the brush to blend it up properly.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 18
    So let's do that.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 19
It's actually pretty difficult to blend a wet shadow, especially when you're using dark colors, but it's also very convenient. You could be having two palettes and one intensive and dark color, or you could save money on it and just use the same one by applying it in a different way. So I'm dipping my - I made my brush wet again, and I'm going to dip it in the black shadows for my second eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 20
Okay. So, let's do it again.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 21
Okay. This one's better. Now this is what I have here.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 22
I would like to complete the eyeshadow work and add some on the bottom line, also using little brush. I'm going to make it wet
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 23
And dip it in again the same corner.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 24
And just start with the corner and add some blush into it.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 25
You would never be able to reach such a deep result - get such a deep colour - if you were using just a dry regular dry brush.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 26
Okay, so the eyeshadow work is done and I would recommend you, I mean you might want to get your eyes more like bright, you might want to use the black eye-liner on top right on your lash line and also if you want to put some mascara on your lashes to make your eyes bigger.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
  • 27
So you just watched me apply eyeshadows with wet brush. If you have any more questions on beauty, make-up, and hairstyles, please leave your questions in the section below. Thank you and bye-bye.

    Method 4: with a Q-Tip

Hello and you are watching VisiHow. My name is Kara.

    Steps

    1. 1
In today's video I will teach you how to apply eyeshadow using the regular Q-Tip.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    2. 2
You can use this Q-Tip, if you are in a situation where you don't have a special eyeshadow sponges or brushes for applying the eyeshadow.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    3. 3
This is what I am doing; when I get the eyeshadow with the Q-Tip, this is how I am applying it, wiping it over eyeshadow and while wiping I am rolling it back and forth to get enough eyeshadow on it.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    4. 4
Shake it just like I do with the eye brushes you would have watched me in one of my previous videos.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    5. 5
I just wipe it on; of course it is not going to be perfect, it is not the same as applying with the brushes. As you can see there is a spot here which I wipe it off basically blend in the direction where I need that highlight on.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    6. 6
Do the same thing again with the Q-Tip. Roll it and apply it on the other eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    7. 7
In the spot where you can see, it doesn't start very smoothly, I am rubbing it away down the eyebrow.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    8. 8
The same thing goes in the inner corner of my eye. Because our Q-Tip is hard it scraps off the eyeshadow, and you end up applying more than you need, and it doesn't apply very smoothly or evenly.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    9. 9
You have to pay an extra attention towards blending, so it doesn't look too mad.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    10. 10
Next step, I am using the same with the brown color from the same pallet.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    11. 11
Just do like I do previously, I am going to scrape this off to take some color on the contour of the Q-pad and in the center to cover the Q-Tip. Just like this you can see the Q-Tip is covered with the shadow.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    12. 12
I am applying gently, feathering over my eye lid and rolling the Q-Tip. I am applying it all the way towards my wrinkle line.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    13. 13
Do the same procedure with the other eye. Just feather it up to blend any imperfection spot that you are having.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    14. 14
OK, this is what I have here.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    15. 15
To finish up that look for your eyes, I recommend that you take the contour pencil, the eye liner and just draw a line right next to your natural lash line.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    16. 16
I am going to extend it just a tiny bit there; you got to do it with your eye open for more natural look.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    17. 17
Do the same thing to the other eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    18. 18
Again the eye extension has to be done with your eye open. Otherwise it is not going to look very natural.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    19. 19
I forgot to put some eye liner on the bottom just to add up a volume into my eyes.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    20. 20
Again I will take a new Q-Tip to blend up the eye liner using the Q-Tip for a softer look. Roll it up and mix it a little bit with my brown eyeshadow.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    21. 21
Do the same thing to the bottom corner.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    22. 22
Then do the same procedure on the other eye. Brush it from the lash line up to the eye lid.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    23. 23
Then do the bottom of my eye.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    24. 24
OK my eyes turned red because of using this rough Q-Tip.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No| I need help
    25. 25
If we have sensitive eyes, you probably prefer to use your fingers to apply the eyeshadow, which you can watch in one of my other videos.
