Basic Phone Etiquette to Follow

  1. 1
Follow the rules of a certain place
    .
Nowadays, since people are very much dependent on mobile phones, most places have already set forth their rules when it comes to the use of these gadgets. For example, you would see cinemas with a lot of signs reminding people to turn off their phones or keep it on silent when the movie is ongoing. Also, there are even verbal reminders on this right before the movie starts. You would see the same thing in most offices and other public places. Therefore, it is only proper that you be mindful of these rules and respect and follow them accordingly.

  2. 2
Always keep in mind how you are affecting the people around you
    .
Although the activities going on with your smartphone definitely only belong to you, you should not totally forget the people who are around you. See whether your actions are already disturbing them or not. Turning your phone on silent mode is the best way to do it, especially when you know the people around you are trying to concentrate and would not appreciate any unnecessary noise.

  3. 3
Prioritize personal interaction over virtual communication
    .
If you are with another person, put down your phone and turn it on silent mode. It is never respectful when you are spending time with another person but your focus is on your phone. Keep in mind that personal interaction counts more than texts or calls and that if you have set your time to spend with another person, make sure that your attention is undivided, unless of course in the case of emergencies. This also applies to business. If you are in a meeting, make sure that your focus is on the meeting and not something else on your phone.
