Hello, welcome to VisiHow. This is a tutorial on how to add a contact to the Skype application while using the Microsoft Lumia 535.

Steps

To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on the right-hand side of the phone

This will bring us to the lock screen.

Once the phone is activated, swipe the lock screen up to unlock the phone and display the home screen

On the home screen, find and tap the Skype tile to open the Skype application

The tile appears as a white circle with a blue "S" inside, on a blue background. If Skype is not pinned to the home screen, swipe right to left to open the App menu. Tap "Skype" to open the Skype application. We are going to add a contact on Skype.

To add a contact, first press the 3 white dots in a line in the bottom right-hand corner, the menu icon

This brings up our options.

Tap on the second option from the top, "add people", in white lettering

This will bring us to a page to search for people.

Here we have a text box in light blue that says "Search Skype" and underneath of it, it says "Find people by entering their Skype name, email, or full name

Tap on the text bar until it's highlighted and the keyboard appears.

We can enter the name if the person we would like to add

When we're done, we need to press the enter button located in the bottom right-hand corner. It is a black arrow in a white box. That will bring up the search results.

Choose the contact to add by tapping on it

In this case, the correct contact is at the top. If we search using a Skype name or an email, it will usually only bring up one option. Tapping on the name will open the profile.

Tap on "Add to contacts", which is indicated by the blue outline of a person with a plus sign

Skype will send a message to the contact to go with the request

We can edit this message by tapping on the text box. It currently says "Hello H. J. Buell, I'd like to add you as a contact". We are going to delete the message and write a new one. This is useful if we're adding a friend or want to write something more personal.

Tap on the white envelope in a white circle, in the blue bar at the bottom

The friend request has been sent

We can see "Pending contact request" in blue text on the profile. Wait for the friend to accept the request, then we will be able to contact them.
