Edited by Thor, Rushell, Eng
Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to add applications to a child's page in the Kid Mode application on an HTC One M8.
Steps
1
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the Power button located on the top of the phone
.
2
Once the phone has been activated, we will see the Lock screen
.
3
To unlock the phone, swipe the screen upwards
.
4
Once the phone has been unlocked, we will see the Home screen, and at the bottom of the screen, we will see several icons
.
We now need to find the Settings menu, and to do that, we need to swipe the Notification panel down.
5
To open the Notification panel, start right at the top of the screen, and swipe downwards
.
6
Now, we can see that the Notification panel has appeared
.
7
We are looking for the icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen
.
It is a white cog icon. This is our Settings icon.
8
Press down on this icon, and it will open up the "Settings" menu
.
It says the word "Settings" in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
9
Now, let's scroll down to the "PERSONAL" section, indicated by the word "PERSONAL" in the gray bar
.
10
In this section, we are looking for the "Security" option
.
Next to the word "Security" there is an icon of a padlock.
11
Press down on this option, and it will open up our menu
.
12
We are looking for the second option from the top
.
It says, "Kid Mode - Give a child limited access to your phone". Press down on this section.
13
Now, we want the first option that says, "Parent Dashboard"
.
This allows us to edit and customize the Kid Mode application.
14
Press down on this section, and it will open up the settings for the Kid Mode application
.
What we want to do is add applications, and this allows us to choose what applications our child has access to. We can create different profiles for different children, at different ages, and allow certain ages to use only certain applications. If a child is 16, maybe they're allowed to use Facebook, but if they're 8, maybe they're not allowed to use Facebook.
15
Choose the child you want to focus on by pressing on the child's name at the top
.
If we tap on the name at the top left, it will bring up a list of children we have created added to the Kid Mode application.
16
For this demonstration, we're going to choose "Ash", so we'll tap on that name
.
17
Then we're going to press down on the second option, which says "Apps"
.
Next to this is an icon of a game controller pad. Press down on this section.
18
At the top of the screen, we can see it says "Ash's Apps"
.
Just below this title it says, "Please select the apps you want Ash to play inside Kid Mode." This is going to allow us to select the apps that we want this child to have access to. We can also add apps.
19
At the top, there's an app that we can download
.
This is suggested for us.
20
However, we can scroll down and choose from the apps we already have installed on the phone
.
21
To choose an app, press down on the box across from the app name on the right-hand side of the screen
.
This will put a check in the box, which will mean that application is selected.
22
Do we want our child to have access to the "Calculator"
?
Yes, this is useful and will help them do math. Therefore, we want them to have access to the Calculator. We'll press down on the box until the blue check appears. This also highlights the entire section for the Calculator application.
23
Do we want then to have access to the "Camera"
?
Yes, because with the Camera, they can take photos, be creative. We want the to have access to that, so we'll press down on the box.
24
Now, the blue check has appeared, and the "Camera" option is highlighted
.
25
Do we want them to have access to the internet
?
No, it isn't necessary for them to have access to "Google Chrome". "Facebook", no. "Fitbit", no.
26
Yes, they can have access to the radio.
27
Also the "Flashlight" is useful
.
Continue going through the applications to choose exactly which applications we want our children to have access to, and it's very useful.
28
Once satisfied with the applications selected, press down on the "Save" button at the bottom left-hand corner of the screen
.
This will save those choices.
29
This concludes our tutorial on how to add applications to a child's page in the Kid Mode application on an HTC One M8
.
