Widgets vs. Applications: What's the difference?

Some people may have difficulty identifying a widget from an application. The difference between applications and widgets are the following:

    How they function
    .
    Widgets main functions are to assist the user and make using the phone easier and more productive. Some applications are also designed for the same functions, but only a low percentage of the apps are meant for "assisting purposes". Also, most of the time, a widget is an easy way of accessing a phone's normal function. Clock, calendar and weather are examples of widgets.

    How they can be accessed

    Widgets can only be accessed on the home screen. They are designed to work on the home screen, while applications, most of the time, open a new window that is solely for the application. Applications can also be accessed both from the Home screen and the App list.

    How they work
    .
    Widgets work without actually triggering or opening them. The moment you put them on the home screen, they start working and give you the information that you need. Applications, on the other hand, will only work when triggered or opened. Some applications may run automatically in the background, but you still need to open them to view the information, while widgets show what they have to offer at "face value".

    Where they are listed

    This is the easiest way to identify a widget from an application. From the App and Widget list, applications are listed on the Apps tab (upper-left tab) while Widgets are on the Widgets tab (upper-right tab).

    Make your way to your Galaxy Note3's home screen

    The Apps icon is where all of your applications and widgets are listed. Tap on the Apps icon on the lower-right part of the screen to see your installed applications and widgets.

    Locate the application you want to make a shortcut to

    By default, applications on the App list are alphabetically arranged. To locate a certain application, simply scroll your way down the list until you see the desired application's icon.

    Questions and Answers

    I have updated Galaxy software, and the application list does not display a widget list?

    When I go to the app list, widgets are not listed there. Where are they?. I have tried: Going to the app screen. I think it was caused by: I am not sure. Maybe it's my settings.

    To view widgets, press the home button and pinch the screen. Widgets will appear at the bottom of the screen. You can select widgets from there.
