Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this series of videos, I'm going to show you a number of hotkey commands related to Microsoft Word 2010. Hotkeys are very useful things to know. They are very easy and accessible. They allow you to save a lot of time, maybe even a bit of money and probably a few grey hairs. Method 2: Copy Paste Bold Italics and Common Tasks

Hello and welcome to VisiHow. Today I'm going to show you some hotkey commands related to some of the most common tasks found in Microsoft Word 2010.

    The majority of hotkeys are activated using the Ctrl key, found here.

    The first hotkey I'm going to show you is to activate the bold function.
    By pressing Ctrl + B simultaneously, it activates the bold function, allowing me to type in bold. To deactivate the bold function, simply press Ctrl + B again.

    The second hotkey is to activate the italic function.
    This time press Ctrl + I simultaneously, this will allow you to write in italics. To deactivate the italic function, simply press Ctrl + I again.

    The next hotkey is to activate the underline setting.
    This can be done in two ways. You can highlight the text by double-clicking on it and then pressing Ctrl + U simultaneously. This will underline the text. To deactivate and remove the underline press Ctrl + U once more. If you want to underline while you write, again, press Ctrl + U, continue writing and then when you have finished the underlined section, press Ctrl + U again to deactivate.

    If you need to decrease the font size, this can be done by pressing Ctrl + Shift + < simultaneously.
    This decreases the font size by one value. The more you press it the smaller it gets. As you can see, the text is very small.

    To make the text larger and increase the font size by one value, we're going to press Ctrl + Shift + > simultaneously.
    This increases it by one every time. Now it has gone up to 20, and as you can see it's a lot larger.

    The next function is to copy selected text or object.
    To do this, we highlight an area of text by clicking and moving the cursor around the area you wish to highlight. I can edit the whole passage, or only one word as I need. I'm going to highlight this one line. To copy the text press Ctrl + C. Now if I move my cursor to the next line, I can paste using Ctrl + V. As you can see, I've replicated the line above by copying and pasting.

    If I want to cut something and remove it, again, I'm going to highlight an area and press Ctrl + X.
    Now the line has been removed.

    If you have made a mistake and you need to go back and undo your previous action, you can press Ctrl + Z.
    This will undo your previous action. If you need to go back several times, just keep pressing Ctrl + Z until you have reached the stage that you want to return to.

    If you need to redo the last action you can press Ctrl + Y.
    You can keep doing this until you reach the result you want.

    Finally, if you need to open the word count box, you can press Ctrl + Shift + G.

Method 3: Saving and Creating Documents

    To create a new document, you're going to press Ctrl + N.
    As you can see, a new document has emerged.

    If we need to open a document from a file, we can press Ctrl + O.
    Now we can see the Documents folder has opened, allowing us to select a Word document.

    If we need to close a Word document, we can press Ctrl + W.
    We've pressed it and you can see that it's deleted and erased that page. If you have something on that document, it will ask you if you want to save it or if you just want to delete it.

    For the next option I'm going to show you, I need to open a new window so I'll click Ctrl + N.
    A new document has emerged again.

    Now, if you need to split the window to create two different sections, you can press Alt + Ctrl + S.
    You see the line in the middle? You can select where you'd like to put the line. And now you can see it's divided the page into two different areas.

    If you want to delete the partition, once again we're going to press Alt + Ctrl + S.
    The partition has been removed.

    For the next section, I'll need to delete this document, so I'll press Ctrl + W.
    And as you can see, it has been removed.

    And now finally, to save a document, you can press Ctrl + S.
    As you can see, the Save function has emerged. Now you're able to choose the file name and you can save it as you need to.

Method 4: Find and Replace

Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video I'm going to show you a few hotkey commands related to finding, replacing and browsing through text.

    First command is to open the navigational task panel.
    To do this we are going to press CTRL and F. CTRL F will open up the navigational panel. If you have a large piece of text and essay or a large body of work, this is a very helpful tool enabling you to find segments, words or areas very quickly. It allows you to highlight them all.

    For example I have type in "road" here.
    There are 26 matches in this piece of work. Here, we see all the sections where "road" is referenced: "the magic of the bicycle", "the freedom", "the side roads", "the direct connection and intersection with". If I scroll down I can see all the areas and segments where "road" is referenced.

    ALT CTRL Y and you can see it scrolling through all the words and segments where "road" is referenced.
    Road is still highlighted because I highlighted it in the navigation panel, which we can open once again with CTRL F - you can see "road" here.

    If I find another word such as "time" and press Enter, we will see that there are 18 matches for "time".

    If I want to close the panel but continue to look for references to "time" and "time" itself, I can press ALT CTRL Y and I'll continue scrolling through segments.

    When you reach the end of the document, it will ask you if you want to restart at the beginning.

    This function is very useful if you need to make alterations or changes; or you need to delete segments of a large piece of work, this will save you the time of having to scroll through and find each individual item.

    If you need to replace something - any text, or if you need to replace specific formatting or special items, you are going to press CTRL H.
    CTRL and H will ask me what word I would like (to search for) and what I would like to replace it with. This is very useful with names if you have misspelled someone's name - or location.

    If I want to replace "time" with a word, I can replace time with "road".
    Now I'm going to replace every "time" in the article, or passage, with the word "road".You can replace 1 or you can replace all.

    Let's replace all.
    It's asking me again if I would like to restart from the beginning to continue the search. Always click "Yes" to make sure that you have not only replace the words from one point of the article to the end but you have gone full circle and also replaced the words at the beginning of the passage.

    So now, every reference to "time" has been replace with the word "road".
    The makes absolutely no sense, of course, but it illustrates the potential power you have in your hands. So I'm going to close this segment now.

    Next, if we want to search a document, or an article, or any large body of work, search it very quickly for pages, bookmarks, footnotes, tables, comments, graphics or anything else we need to find, we can press CTRL and G.
    Here we can see it has reopened this find and replace box, the box we have looked up earlier, which is here - "Replace", "Find" and "Go To" section. You can click on the tabs at the top.

    We wanted to search for page number as it says here, "Enter and - to move relative to the current location.
    Example: 4 will move forward four items." If we wanted to go ten pages further, then we would put (Shift and sign), 10 and click "Go To" and you can see we are going straight ten pages further on. Close this section.

    If we wanted to switch between the last four places edited - if you want to move between the last four areas that you've edited, we can press ALT, CTRL and Z.
    Here, we are moving within the last four places edited allowing you very quick movement between sections rather than you having to identify, search and remember exactly where in the article you have previously been.
