Will I lose my apps, pictures, and messages if I do a soft reset?

I can't hear my notifications on my phone. I tried restarting. I turned the volume all the way up and nothing works. Will you please help me?

A soft reset is the perfect solution to the problems you are having with your Android device. When you perform a soft reset, you will simply close all open applications. The only information you will lose is what might have currently been open. For example, if you were writing an email, or editing a photo, then you would lose the new text or photo edits, but you would not otherwise lose your email or photos.

You can perform a soft reset by either pressing and holding the power button for 20 seconds, or by removing your battery, SIM, and SD card, and waiting a minute or two before putting them back in and restarting your phone.

Kies does not back-up and I have seen lots of chat that it's crap?

In the steps for Hard reset, it says you should perform a back-up using Kies and then talks about Sync, which is different to back-up. Incidentally I have not been able to get Kies to Back up my phone successfully, it just hangs when it gets to the video icon

Failed to mount cache/recovery?

Hi, I plugged my phone to charge last night and went to bed. This morning when I checked it, the Viber LED indicator was flashing. When I clicked the home button, the screen didn't turn on. I tried the lock button and nothing happened. So I removed the battery and put it back again. When I tried to turn the phone on, it got stuck on the Galaxy S3 logo screen. I tried to wipe out the cache data, but as it started, it showed some RED error messages like the "Failed to mount cache/recovery..." or "failed to mount...."

Difficult to turn on after it's been switched off?

Whenever I switch it off and on the Samsung logo just blinks over and over again rather than it actually switching on. The battery also dies really quick. It tends to hang as well.
