There are a number of reasons that your Samsung Galaxy S3 may be preventing you from hearing your phone calls. The most common reason is that you may have accidentally turned your device's volume down, which is preventing it from allowing you to hear the other person's voice when you're on a phone call without the speaker or headset on. To troubleshoot this issue, do the following:

  1. 1
    Turn your phone on.

  2. 2
    Place or receive a call.

  3. 3
When you're in the Phone application and on the call, press the Volume up button.

  4. 4
The volume slider should now slide to the right, indicating that your volume has turned up.

You should now be able to hear your phone calls. If not, your phone may still be connected to your headset through Bluetooth, which is why you can only hear your phone calls when you put your headset or speakerphone on. To turn Bluetooth off so you can hear your phone calls on the Samsung Galaxy S3 itself, do the following:

  1. 1
    Turn your phone on.

  2. 2
Press the Home button to return to your Samsung Galaxy S3's home screen.

  3. 3
Drag a finger down from the top of your screen to the bottom.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No
  4. 4
Tap the icon in the upper right-hand corner.
Was this step helpful? Yes | No
  5. 5
    Tap Bluetooth.

Bluetooth will now be off, and your phone will disconnect from the headset so you can listen to your phone calls using the phone against your face and not your headset or the phone's speaker. If you're still having issues after following all of these instructions, you may have a defective phone call speaker. Contact Samsung's customer service to troubleshoot your device further and find out if your device is malfunctioning. If it is, the customer service representative will be able to help you schedule a repair or replacement for your device. Depending on the severity of the issue and the terms of your warranty, you may or may not have to pay for the repairs or replacement.
