When to Use Airplane Mode on iPhone.

There are many times it is helpful to use your iPhone's airplane mode. You should not only use it when complying with the requests of the flight attendant to inactivate your phone during a flight. In fact you can also use it as a preventive measure when your child is playing with your iPhone or while you're roaming. Likewise, you can use it to help save your phone's battery life. Here are some of the scenarios when to turn on the airplane mode of your iPhone.

    While on a flight.

If you have been flying in the last couple of years, you probably have heard the flight attendants reminding all passengers to deactivate all their electronic devices. As soon as the plane reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet, you can use your phones in airplane mode. By turning on the airplane mode, you're also turning off both the cellular and WiFi connections. You can no longer make or receive texts, calls, or emails. Also, you cannot use your phone to browse the internet. This means that you cannot use your phone on anything that needs a data connection while it is on an airplane mode.

To disconnect from the outside world for a while.
    Family time2.jpg
As mentioned earlier, by putting your iPhone on airplane mode, you are also turning off all connections to your phone. This is one of the best ways to unplug, so you can spend some uninterrupted, quality time with your loved ones. Likewise, this is a good way to take some time out from the ringtone or message tones that seem to be controlling our lives at times. Modern technology puts so much pressure on most of us to always stay connected, so we fall into the habit of always checking our phones every time we hear a beep. If you want to get back control of your own life, just put your iPhone on airplane mode. You will be surprised peaceful your night can be and how easily you forget that you're not connected to the outside world. You can also use this during important meetings. In any case, you will still receive all your messages as soon as you deactivate the airplane mode.

International trips can be very expensive, not only for you but also for your wireless carrier. If you're not careful, you will incur very expensive international roaming charges while traveling. To avoid costly roaming fees, just activate your iPhone's airplane mode. But you can still use it to connect to a WiFi network while traveling. So although you can't receive or make phone calls or text messages, you can still use instant messengers, check your email, and browse the internet by setting your iPhone to a WiFi connection only.

While your kids are watching movies or playing games with your iPhone.

If you have children, you're probably very thankful for the entertainment that your iPhone can provide. But you also know that your kids could tap on anything they see on your phone's screen. They might dial phone numbers by mistake. So the next time you allow your kids to watch a movie or play a game using your iPhone, first activate its airplane mode. This will not only help stop them from accidentally calling anyone, but it will also prevent push alerts from disrupting their movie or game play.

To save your iPhone's battery life.
    Battery life.jpg
There are times when our phones have a low battery and there's no way we could charge it immediately. One great way to save your battery life is to activate the airplane mode. This is because when your phone is not on airplane mode, even when your screen is off, it is always monitoring and searching for data connections. By turning on the airplane mode, you'll be deactivating these connections and save battery. And you can still turn off airplane mode and make calls anytime you really have to.

Tips

  • If you're lucky enough to be on a flight with WiFi connections, you can turn on your iPhone's WiFi connection only and browse the Internet, send emails, or send instant messages.
  • When traveling abroad, you can turn on your iPhone's airplane mode and switch on its WiFi connection, only to browse on the internet while on WiFi spots.
