There are three possible reason why you are encountering this kind of problem. It could be with the operating system, an added feature to the latest update or it could be a feature that has been set by a network provider if the phone was a postpaid plan.

It is possible that this is an added feature for your phone's operating system. However, there are no reports and this is the first report that has been posted online that whenever you turn on your WiFi your tethering would get turn off to prioritize the WiFi connectivity and for power saving as well.

If this is a problem with the operating and if in case that the phone does not have the latest Operating system then you may have to update the phone and check if it has the same thing, you may also need to back up the phone data to a computer then perform a Factory Reset and see if it does the same.

If your phone was provided by a network provider as a postpaid plan, they might set restriction. There are some network provider who would set restrictions to their customer, it is best that you contact your network provider and inquire if they have such restriction.

If the last two failed then this could be an added feature for your Samsung phone which is only normal. If you want to isolate this kind of feature if its an added or just happening to your phone. You can check with your friends or relatives or to any person that you know who has the same phone as your and check it with them if they have the same feature as yours that way you would know if this is only on your phone or a normal feature.

Verizon phones work on CDMA. Unless you can hit a CDMA tower in Lagos, Nigeria you will not be able to hotspot. They widely use GSM towers and this would be your validation error.

Galaxy S4 WiFi hotspot "validation error"?

When I try to turn on the hotspot on my Galaxy S4 I get a "validation error" message. I talked to the provider and there should not be any issues there. I should be able to use the hotspot feature. Essentially, they don't care how I use my data. So it sounds like the issue is on my end. Any thoughts? The phone is a Verizon phone from the US but is currently used in Central America with a SIM card. I can browse the internet just fine on the phone via the cellular network. Only the hotspot feature is not working. Thanks!. I have tried: Went to the local service provider office. They fixed the cellular parameters, which got the data to work. But they could not (would not?!) help me with the hotspot.

You can hotspot in Central America with [www.verizonwireless.com/plans/travelpass-countries/ Verzon Travel Pass] but still you will be limited to select locations where the hotspot will work.

Galaxy Note4 Hotspot not working?

My Galaxy Note4 was purchased in the USA from Verizon. The mobile hotspot works in the US, but now I'm in Ethiopia for business and its not working and giving me a "unable to connect - validation error" when I try to turn it ON, and "checking subscription status". Will tethering/hotspot not work in a country other than the one you purchased the phone from?

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

Verizon works on CDMA while other countries use GSM. You will need to try to change your settings but even then it would be better to purchase a burner phone if your phone is not connecting after you change settings.

Is the phone from AT&T? This is a common error with phones from AT&T on other carriers such as T-Mobile. So these phones have a function built in that basically blocks hotspotting unless you are on an AT&T network. Foxfi is an app that you can install on the device to try to work around your error message of invalid SIM. Thing is, sometimes it works and other times it is spotty or inefficient. Also, some AT&T phones will disable the Foxfi app. You will have to enable the proxy service if you have an AT&T phone from within the Foxfi app for it to work.

I have Samsung S5 Verizon brand?

When I try to open WiFi hotspot it doesn't open and an error comes 'validation error', tell me what I do?

You need to have a certain plan with Verizon for hotspot to work. The validation error you are experiencing can be resolved by taking the phone to a Verizon store and asking them to swap the SIM for one that is enabled for hotspotting if you are paying for it in your plan.

The fact that your phone is unlocked is part of your issue. Use an app like Foxfi to work around the error you are getting so that you can hotspot. Otherwise, as stated above take the phone to a flagship store and request assistance with your SIM to be set up to hotspot.
