Mucus production is an important part of the body's immune or lymphatic system as it provides a barrier or filter for harmful pathogens that try to intercept our airways in the effort to wreak havoc in the different organ systems of the body. This indeed plays a significant role in providing a sturdy defense system against a wide range of illnesses.
Mucus production coats the linings of different organs in our body such as the throat and vocal cords. Too much or excessive mucus or sputum production can be a nuisance or deterrent to your singing capabilities as it can trigger colds, cough, hoarseness of voice, sore throat, and sinusitis;among others especially if you have allergies to certain pollutants or triggers which can aggravate mucus production all the more.
Certain fruit juices and fruits such as banana, oranges, and lemons are known to increase mucus production which can be harmful to your throat and vocal cords especially when taken in generous amounts. It is wise to hydrate yourself with water and other liquids that can reduce mucus production such as ginger ale or green tea.
