It is most possible that the computer is overheating or the power supply is failing.

  • You may measure temperatures inside of your computer by running hardware monitor tools like HWMonitor. Pay attention to CPU and GPU temperatures. Check your CPU or GPU for operational temperatures and check if they are within the limits. It is usually hard to see the temperature right before the shut down; so, you will need to see any log files or check the temperatures just as soon as your computer starts in BIOS.
  • You can just open your PC, blow dust out of it carefully as shown in our tutorial on how to clean your computer and how to clean a computer tower. Buy a thermal paste and disassemble the CPU cooler. Carefully lift the CPU and check the socket pins under a bright light: they should all have parallel shades. Put the CPU back if they are fine. If not, straighten the pins first at a service center. Then, clean the CPU surface with alcohol and reapply the thermal paste. Spread it with a plastic card: evenly and smoothly. Reattach a thoroughly cleaned cooler.
  • If it is the power supply (PSU), then you will need to find another PSU, preferably with a higher power rating, to check it on your computer. Alternatively, just buy a new one and replace yours if you have the money. It is never a bad idea to have a spare PSU.
  • Other reasons (less likely to be true) like short circuits, RAM failures, failing computer parts (CPU included) are harder to diagnose and test. It is recommended to do it only if you have a spare computer to which you connect all of the parts one by one or by small groups to test them.
