You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to use "Symbol Sprayer Tool" in Adobe Illustrator CS6 in Windows 7.
To begin, you should open Illustrator either from your desktop or by coming down to the bottom-left corner and clicking the Windows icon.
This will reveal a list of recently used programs. You may find Illustrator there. It has a brown-and-orange icon with the letters "Ai".
If you can't see Illustrator in the start menu, use the search bar along the bottom and start typing "Adobe Illustrator".
Click "Adobe Illustrator CS6".
It will immediately start loading and take you directly to the workspace.
Click "File" in the horizontal menu in the top-left corner.
For this tutorial, let's click "OK".
Click "Symbol Sprayer Tool".
It's in the vertical toolbar on the left side of the window. You can also press "Shift" + "S" on your keyboard to access this tool.
Click the "Swatches" panel on the right side of the window.
The "Swatches" icon looks like a grid.
Then, click the "Symbols" tab.
It's along the top of this panel. There is another tutorial on creating symbols. Let's use one of the existing symbols.
You can also browse the symbol library by clicking the icon that looks like books in the bottom-left corner of this panel.
Let's click "Nature", for example.
Click one of the symbols from the "Nature" panel.
Let's click "Maple leaf 2", for example. The "Symbol Sprayer Tool" cursor becomes a large circle by default.
You can adjust the radius of the tool by pressing the square brackets on the keyboard.
It's recommended to have quite a large tool size.
Simply click and hold the left mouse button.
The area within the circle will be filled with the symbol you've selected.
You can also click and drag the tool across your canvas as if it were a paintbrush.
Making the brush bigger does not make the symbol bigger but instead gives the symbols more area into which they can expand.
Press "Ctrl" + "Z" several times to clean the canvas.
Let's click another symbol and reduce the tool size.
Draw with the tool on the canvas.
As you can see, making the tool smaller does not affect the symbol size. It only changes the surface area where the symbol will be propagated.
You can go through the library by clicking it and testing all of the other options.
There are quite interesting symbols that are already built into Illustrator. They may save you time. You can also use the symbols in artistic textures that will make the image look more authentic.
When you select a symbol type from the symbol libraries, different tabs may appear within the pop-up window.
This will allow you to work with various symbols within one category.
