    The diaphragm is the muscle directly below the ribcage and lungs.
    When you take a breath and inhale, the diaphragm expands and pushes down to allow the lungs to fill themselves with air.

    Your diaphragm moves up to expel the rest of the air. Your diaphragm is the most important muscle when breathing because without it, you would not have the flexibility of breathing normally.
