Use My Files on Galaxy S5

You're watching VisiHow. Today we are going to teach you how to access and use the "My Files" application on your Samsung Galaxy S5 or S5 Mini. To start with, press the lock screen button one time to unlock your phone and open up the lock screen.

    Now, slide across the lock screen

    This will take you to your Home Screen

    Once you are on the Home Screen; what you are going to do is simply go down to the applications menu icon and tap it on time.

    This will open up the applications folder

    Under the applications folder, you will find and option called My Files. This application will open up a file explorer which will let you see all of your files.

    It's been significantly improved in the recent versions of Android versus older versions

    There are a number of things that you can do here. To start with, you can quickly search for recent files, you can access videos, documents, open up your images, listen to your audio, or quickly view any downloaded apps. You can also see your download history, and you can see information on local storage and any cloud storage that you may have.

    Further, you can tap on the menu option

    You can add shortcuts to create new folders, you can add an FTP server to load and remove files from, you can search for nearby devices,

    Now my device path has changed from Local Storage to SD card to DCIM to Camera

    I can press the Home Button to quickly go home instead of pressing back

Questions and Answers

When I open the documents folder in My Files there are all these documents that say for example 14465.txt. When I open the file it says service.com.Samsung.vvm/service Vmaildebugservice, then some stuff I don't understand. What are these and can I delete them there are 4.8MB of these files?

Unable to access main files folder on Galaxy 5?

I used to be able to see the various options to access different types of files (i.e. downloads, applications, etc.) but after accessing the download history a few times through there it is now just taking me automatically to the pictures I downloaded when I hit "My Files". How do I get back to the main menu for that option?

I can't find the "my files" icon?

I have gone to apps but I can't find the my files icon?

  • Check if My Files is disabled. Press the home button. Tap on "Apps", "Settings", "Application Manager", and "ALL". Find My Files on the list and, if it is disabled, turn it back on.
  • If you cannot locate My Files, then you can use an alternative file manager from Play Store, such as My Files File Manager, ASTRO File Manager, and X-plore File Manager.

On my phone, can I erase under my files / Documents that are written in code?

I do not know what those files are and if I can erase them without hurting my phone. The video stated My Files / Documents but did not explain how to erase any of those files.
