Use Location Services on Samsung Galaxy S5
Edited by Grimm, Jen M, Eng, Doug Collins
Hi, you're watching VisiHow and today we are going to show you how you can turn on, GPS location services for your phone and turn them off. This will work for your Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini, Android Kitkat 4 and up, as well as any phone running the appropriate operating system. .
To get started, swipe down from the applications panel.
Tap on Settings (looks like a gear)
Then we'll scroll down until we find 'Location'.
We can press the home button where ever we are in our phone.
Then Tap on the 'Apps' button one time.
Tap on the Settings which is the gear shaped Icon.
Once we tap on that, we will be in our phone.
Now we can simply scroll down as I said, to the 'Network Connections' section and tap on the 'Location' icon there.
This is going to bring up a menu with several items.
The first item is the on-off switch to turn Location Services on or off.
The second one is our 'Mode' which will allow us to choose from the basic phone settings, GPS, WiFi, and mobile carrier data.
Each of those increases the likelihood of our location being shown accurately in GPS settings.
Then we have the 'Location Requests' which tells us what applications are requesting our location.
Then we have Google's own 'Location Reporting'.
Finally, we have 'My places'.
I'll just give you a quick overview of 'My places'.
My places allow you to choose Home, Work, and Car. These are locations that you may have set up a particular way.
Select here when you reach your home point, for instance on the map.
Then your phone will know that you are home.
The same thing with 'Work'
When you reach your place of work, 'Select Method.
Then your phone knows that you are at work - time to switch to work mode.
Which has additional methods such as Bluetooth and WiFi.
You may have a Bluetooth stereo which picks up and connects to it and knows that you're in the car, so it's time to use hands-free for the music player, or time to connect to the radio. For WiFi, I have not personally seen a car with WiFi, but obviously Google has a few of those riding around, and that is probably what this is for, future technology with WiFi, or those of you that have super advanced cars that I don't currently own.
Let's now go back to the main Location menu.
The first thing we're going to do now is turn 'On' our location services by tapping this little green button here and turn on our location services..
Now 'Do you want to use enhanced location services?'.
Now it will ask you to let Google decide your location and lets it help applications to get more accurate location information. When you do this, we will provide better location services. If you select , 'Don't show again' and then 'Disagree', you won't see this menu again unless you turn your location information on and off, or restore your phone. Now for our purposes, I'm going click agree.
Now for our purposes I will go ahead and click 'Agree'.
Now I'm in 'High accuracy' mode.
Let's tap that and show the other options.
High accuracy mode uses GPS, WiFi, and mobile networks to estimate your location.
Now I'm going to activate the 'GPS only' option.
Now go back to location and turn off location method by tapping the Off switch.
Now I am going to turn it back On.
You're going to see our Google popup again.
I'm going to select Disagree. My Mode is turned on, but you'll notice now it's on GPS only.
What that Google option does, is simply set you to 'High Accuracy'.
See *Use Enhanced Options* I will Agree.
Now my phone is going to accurately target me with GPS - Which is realistically not something that I do not like.
However, we are going to have a couple of other tutorials which will also demonstrate GPS functions.
So now our GPS is turned on.
If you want to see recent requests for your location, you can look in that section. On my phone, nothing has requested it yet.
You want to see 'Google Location Reporting', you can check it here.
Again nothing has requested it yet.
However, there may be some requests a little bit later as I travel around and as my apps decide that they need to know where I am.
That is how you set up your GPS location services.
If you want to turn them off, Obviously you tap on Apps -> Settings -> Locations, and then turning the switch off. Press the Home key and then your Home
