Unlocking my phone after 10 incorrect attempts?

My Moto g phone is locked out. My son took the phone and entered numbers and I guess he did it ten times. I called Verizon and the guy told me to look up my linked Google account, but then when he tied to do a three-way call, we got disconnected.. I have tried: Calling Verizon. They first said they could only reset the factory settings and told me to call Motorola to get the phone unlocked without losing all my data. The person at Motorola said they can't do that, but can restore factory settings.

When I called Verizon back, they said that I could do something with my linked Google account, but we got disconnected before he could tell me what to do. I was unable to reach them again today. I think it was caused by: My son played with the phone and I think he entered passwords until the phone locked up
