We need to enter the "Messages" section and the icon for that is a speech square with three green horizontal lines in the middle.
In this example, the icon is at the bottom of the phone. Press down on this icon, that's going to take us to our messages.

We want to look at the top one now, and what we want to show you is how to turn this on and off.
We can see it says "Received Notification, show notification in status bar when messages are received". This is obviously very useful because it shows us when we have received messages and lets us know this. It does take up battery life, so maybe to conserve battery, we might want to turn this off. If we don't want the phone to make a noise when it receives messages, we can turn this off as well. Then we can just enter the messaging area and check manually if we have received any messages.

To turn this off, we just press down on the box on the right-hand side of the screen.
We can see that there is a blue checkmark in the box. A blue checkmark shows that it has been selected. Press down on the box and the checkmark disappears.

We'll see now all of the options under it have faded into gray, and they're not accessible now because no notifications will be made when we receive a message.
