Once the phone is activated, we the lock screen will be shown.
To unlock the phone, we tap and hold the screen.
The lock icon will appear. We swipe up.
Once the phone is being unlocked, the home screen and icons at the bottom will be shown.
Now, we need to open the "Settings" menu. To do that, we need to swipe the notification panel down.
Tap and hold down the top of the screen and swipe down.
The notification panel will appear.
Tap the settings icon.
The icon is a white cog icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen. This will open up the "Settings" menu. It will have the "Settings" word in the top left-hand corner of the screen.
We scroll down until we get to the "PHONE" section.
There will be "PHONE" written in a grey bar.
We scroll down until we find "Language & keyboard".
There will be an icon next to these words, which is a capital "A" inside of a three-dimensional box.
We tap "Language & keyboard".
Some options will be shown.
Tap the "HTC Sense Input" and "Keyboard options" section.
Another menu will be shown.
Tap the "Trace keyboard" and "Slide fingers over letters to enter text" section.
This function allows us to type words very quickly just by tapping the screen and then swiping over the other letters in a word. It means that we don't have to actually tap each letter. Sliding is a very fast method of typing, and it is very efficient. The default setting on the HTC One M8, however, for this function is that it turned off. The tick box is empty, and it means that the option is not activated.
If we want to activate the "Trace keyboard" option, we tap the tick box.
It will turn green and have a white tick inside of it.
If we want to turn off the "Trace keyboard" option off, we tap the tick box until it becomes empty.
We want to turn this function on by activating it to see how it works.
Now that the setting or function is activated, we need to return to the home screen.
To return to the home screen, we need to press the home screen button located at the bottom of the phone.
The button looks like a white house. We'll be taken to the home screen.
We tap the message icon on the home screen.
The icon has a chat box with three horizontal lines inside of it. Our messages will be shown.
We choose a message that we can use by tapping it.
We tap the "Add text" input field.
We tap lightly the first letter of the word that we want to write and then swipe our finger to the next letters in the word.
In this example, "Hello" will be typed in.
We tap and hold the "H" letter.
Slide the finger over to the next letters.
The phone will find the "Hello" word for us.
We are tracing our finger, and the phone is offering us the word that might be used. We can see that the word "Hello" is found and guessed correctly in this example.
