Bought Motherboard and CPU. Can I test an old psu on it?

Want to test if it is working, since I bought it used. I have a 5 year old power supply with plenty of dust. It was working fine last time I booted it up on another motherboard, but that was about six months ago. Should I wait till I get a brand new motherboard, which is coming in the mail, to test it? Or am I fine to test it now?

Gaming 5 motherboard unresponsive?

Moved computer to another room and I think it overheated. Smelt burning from PSU and computer shut off. No response at all. Assumed it was PSU overloaded, have bought new one and I occasionally get a 2 second fan spin up and then nothing. Not sure what to do. I have tried: Taking graphics card and RAM out, still no start, checked all connection, tried new power cables. I think it was caused by: PSU shorted motherboard, which bricked it

Hi there, I have a question regarding the DRAM and CPU LEDs?

When booting both the DRAM and CPU LEDs will flash alternately. They don't blink but one might stay on for 2-3 secs then goes off and the other comes on etc. The PC will sometimes boot up and other times it just cuts off during boot. It will continue like this trying to boot and quitting over and over. Any help would be great.. I have tried: 1. Checked the RAM in different slots, doesn't change the problem.

2. I'm using the stock CPU fan and one of the clips is broke (new fan on the way) so I took it off and reset it with new paste. The CPU runs at 25-30 degrees C at start up, but can't see temp under stress as the PC will crash first.

3. It booted up twice this morning and I tried to run a Windows Memory Diagnostic but as soon a it got to about 5% the PC crashed.. I think it was caused by: Not sure, the components are 4 years old:

Intel Core i7-2600k 3.40mhz

ASUS P8P67 Pro Rev 3.1

Crossair 8192mb DDR 1600mhz

AMD Radeon HD 6800

My buddy needs help with his new custom built computer?

So he recently built a custom computer but so far he gets error codes on his motherboard and he can't get the display on the monitor to work so he can't use the BIOS or install any drivers/operating systems. These are his specs:. SYSTEM SPECS:. Intel Core i7-6700K 8M Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1151 91W. . Z170A XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM EDITION. . 2 packs of CORSAIR Dominator Platinum 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200. (1.35V). . CPU COOLER: Noctua NH-U14S 140mm SSO2-Bearing (Self-stabilising oil-presure bearing). . EVGA SuperNOVA 850 P2 220-P2-0850-X1 80+ PLATINUM 850W Fully Modular EVGA ECO Mode Includes FREE Power On Self Tester Power Supply. . MSI GeForce GTX 1070 DirectX 12 GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support ATX Video Card. . Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" (500 and 250GB). . Microsoft Windows 10 Home - Full Version (32 & 64-bit) / USB Flash Drive. (Most Likely not installed since BIOS cannot be achieved). . Corsair Graphite Series 780T Black Steel ATX Full Tower PC Case ATX. . OTHER PARTS:. . ASUS PCE-AC68 Dual-band Wireless-AC1900 Adapter IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n PCI Express. . G.SKILL RIPJAWS KM780 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - Cherry MX Brown. . G.SKILL RIPJAWS MX780 USB Wired RGB Laser Gaming Mouse. . He also has his graphics card in the PCI_E5 PCIe 3.0 x8 slot in which his manual suggested it be in the PCI_E1 PCIe 3.0 x16 slot but we believe its not mandatory and its there because his CPU cooler is huge and it won't fit in slot 1 because of it. Also his RAM is in the second slot because his manual suggested it be there and we think it has to be there in order for it to work properly. If you need any added info just ask and thank you for the help.

Would the CPU affect the computers ability to start up?

I have tested all possible components in the computer as well as ran all possible test to try and determine why my computer would not power up. I switched PSU, cables, hard drives, optical drives, adjusted RAM seating, inspected cables and front panel switches, swapping the components for working units, minus the CPU. There is no beep and the CPU gets no power at all even though the green stand by light is lit on the motherboard. I also performed a "hotwire" test to try and see if the power switch was faulty. At this point there is not much else I can test, only the CPU and the Motherboard remain untested. Unfortunately I don't have the resources available to replace the CPU and heat sink fan to determine the exact cause. My conclusion was that either the CPU or the motherboard is faulty and without a way of replacing the CPU I am left with only my hypotenuse to as what the exact cause is. I would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you.. I have tried: Everything, minus changing the CPU. I think it was caused by: CPU or motherboard

Computer freeze (sometimes after 1-2 hours, sometimes sooner)?

First, sorry about my English. For some time computer randomly freezes (no matter if I run some

hard programs, or do nothing). I checked if any of the components is overheated (it is not), tried to reinstall Windows (same problem again). Yesterday I see that MBO doesn't recognize one slot of RAM, and that place (slot) is damaged (smell of burning). Problem started when I bought that second 4GB of RAM. What can I do?

Believe my motherboard or CPU is problematic help would be much appreciated?

I recently took apart my old 2005 HP desktop to clean it and gain a little know-how about how computers work. Successfully did just that put it back together and all was well. Used it a few days in a row without any problems. It then sat for a week untouched turned off, until today. . . Today I took apart another old desktop I had to see if the parts were compatible, I removed and compared the CPUs sadly to find out they were different. when I put the CPU back in, heat sink and plugged everything back in I had no display on power up. . . I have tested my monitor on the other desktop to ensure it isn't the monitor.. . It seems my motherboard has a speaker but it doesn't ever make beeps, tried booting up with no RAM and other things intentionally not there, received no sort of noise. There is also no light on my motherboard. The fans both run loud and strong powered through the motherboard.. . Could I somehow have damaged my motherboard or CPU?. I have tried: Many of the things on this guide that I could with my knowledge were attempted, have been troubleshooting reading different guides and forums all night. reset battery, tried different power supply, can't use the speaker on my motherboard since it never makes noises, there isn't a light indicator on the model motherboard I have, tried booting with no RAM, swapping the sticks, using just 1 stick, booting with only the CPU, fans, and integrated graphics,. I think it was caused by: I have no idea, I literally removed the CPU saw it was different and carefully put it back in the correct way

Monitor on and off randomly, this is really old, Last year, August when I came back from my tour, I opened the computer, but after a while my monitor power button suddenly busted (I'm using Samsung monitor that time and the buttons are touch screens) I suspected that it is because of the lightning because there is a storm that night, when I tried it again the monitor just shuts on and off every 5 seconds(?), I tried it to our other CPU and it also doing that on and off thing, then I switched on using our old monitor Samsung sync master, after 7-8 mos. of using it, it displays the BSOD (blue screen of death) and it is flickering, but when I reformat my CPU, it suddenly turned OK, I used the Samsung (the one with touch screen buttons) again and it worked by almost a month before it happened again the random turn and off of the screen even when the background videos are still running, Now I'm using a new LG monitor for 3 mos. and I suddenly got worried on what if it happened again? what is the real problem? the monitors because they are old? the motherboard? graphics or video cards?
