You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to choose whether the day of the week, and the date and month are shown or not in the menu bar of your Mac running OS X Yosemite.

Steps

    To get started, we're going to need to open the "Date & Time" preferences panel
    .
    To do that, we'll simply go to the menu bar at the top, and click on the clock or date one time.

    Then, we're going to scroll down to the bottom, and we're going to select "Open Date & Time Preferences" by tapping once on the touchpad, or clicking the mouse once

    When we've done this, the "Date & Time" preferences panel will appear
    .
    In the "Date & Time" preferences panel, we will note that we can scroll down to "Date options" under "Show date and time in menu bar".

    On "Date options", we can check or uncheck "Show the day of the week" and "Show date"

    As we can see, in this demonstration, the system indicates that it's "Fri Jul 17"

    Let's go back down and uncheck "Show date"

    Now, we've unchecked "Show date", and "Jul 17" has vanished

    If we check "Show date" again, then "Jul 17" will reappear

    If we uncheck "Show day of the week", then "Fri" will no longer appear, and "Jul 17" will be the only thing that appears there

    Again, we can check that to show the day of the week again

    If we uncheck them both, then there will be nothing shown in terms of the date
