    To get started, we're going to need to open the "Date & Time" preferences panel.
    To do that, we'll simply go to the menu bar at the top, and click on the clock or date one time.

    Then, we're going to scroll down to the bottom, and we're going to select "Open Date & Time Preferences" by tapping once on the touchpad, or clicking the mouse once.

    When we've done this, the "Date & Time" preferences panel will appear.
    In the "Date & Time" preferences panel, we will note that we can scroll down to "Date options" under "Show date and time in menu bar".

    On "Date options", we can check or uncheck "Show the day of the week" and "Show date".

    If we uncheck "Show day of the week", then "Fri" will no longer appear, and "Jul 17" will be the only thing that appears there.
