Setup the Google Hangouts Applications on the iPhone 6
Edited by Grimm, Crystal, Eng, Anonymous
You're watching VisiHow. Today I'm going to show you how to download, install and setup Google Hangouts on you iPhone 6.
To get started, press the power button on the right-hand side to access the lock screen, then swipe to unlock and go to the main home screen.
If you're already on your phone and you're not sure how to go to the main home screen, press the home button at the bottom. That will always take you back to your home screen.
Find the blue icon for the App Store.
It looks like a white letter A. It may not be on the main home screen, you may have to scroll through the other screens. When you find it, tap it one time.
What we are looking for is Google Hangouts.
To find Google Hangouts quickly, press the search button on the bottom.
Tap on the search bar at the top and type Google Hangouts.
As you type, you should see Google Hangouts come up in the drop down list.
Here's Google Hangouts, tap that once.
Here we can see the app is from Google and it has a good rating, almost 1000 people have given it 5 stars, significantly higher than Facebook Messenger or Skype.
Tap on Get, then Install. Sign into the App Store.
The app is finished downloading and installing.
You should now have an icon on one of your home screens, not your main home screen. Since we're already in the App Store, tap on Open.
Google Hangouts will pop up and say Welcome to Hangouts.
Hangouts is actually pretty cool, in my opinion, it's one of the best Google apps. Tap on Get Started.
This is the account I'm going to use.
I could add a different account, but I'm just going to click Next.
Hangouts would like to access your contacts, that way you can chat with them and let them know you're on Hangouts.
I don't actually use Hangouts to chat very much, I do occasionally use it for conversations with some friends of mine, and use it often to make free phone calls. I have no problem with Hangouts having my contacts, some of you may, in which case just tap Don't Allow. I'm going to tap OK.
Now it will ask me about notifications.
It will let me know instantly when something's happening and what's going on. If you set this up and you find that you're disturbed by notifications, you can simply turn it off. Tap on OK.
If you have invitations just tap on it to see who they're from.
Here I have one person in spam and 2 other strange people who want to add me so I'm just going to click accept for everyone.
I'm not too terribly worried about this because if anyone sends me spam it will be filtered by Google anyways. The more spam I get the better Google becomes at filtering spam and the less I have to worry about Spam.
You can go into Invitation preferences and choose who can send you an invite.
We've got options for Following, Acquaintances, Family, Friends, so you can shut out strangers who might disturb you. I'm going to click the button at the top "Can send you an invite".
Here we can choose if they can send an invite, contact you directly or just simply can't contact you.
So it does allow you to setup a degree of privacy which I like. Tap Back.
You can tap your picture up top to edit accounts, settings, snooze, and status.
You can tap the phone icon in the bottom right corner to check your phone calls.
You can go to your favorites if you have favorite people.
Of course, you can see a list of all your contacts.
Now I'm going to click my picture at the top to access my profile.
You can share your status, set alarms, you can manage other accounts and you can tap the settings icon. I'm going to tap the settings icon.
Here are my settings.
Snooze, sound, whether you're allowing calls, what kind of call rings you have, people who are blocked, and you can even sign out. I'm going to tap the X button on the left to close settings because I don't need them.
Now I'm going to swipe to get rid of the messages.
I can choose to make it a favorite, do a voice call, video call, mute it or archive it. The same applies for any of the other ones here.
This is how you use Google Hangouts.
You can press your home button to go back to the home screen where Google Hangouts has been installed. You can see I have one notification, probably spam, but that's OK. If you press the home button again it will take you back to the main home screen.
This concludes our tutorial on how to download, install and setup Google Hangouts on your iPhone 6.
