Swype is an application that helps you enter text easier using your touchscreen device. With Swype activated, you do not need to tap on the keys L, O, V, and E to enter the word LOVE; instead you just have to trace a line from letter L, passing through O, V until E. This is a fun and much faster way of entering text on your Samsung Galaxy Note3.

Swype also has next-letter and word predictions that helps make your typing faster, and corrects any errors you made during the process of swiping through the letters. The more you use Swype, the more it becomes accurate with its next-letter predictions and word suggestions, base on words you frequently use.

My Note3 doesn't have any other choice except keyboard and voice typing. Can you help?

Have you already downloaded and installed the Swype keyboard app from the Play Store? If not, install it from the app or from the play store website here:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nuance.swype.trial

Once installed, you'll need to go into Settings > Language and Input - and set it as the default. See screen shot here:

There isn't Swype option on my phone.

I am not sure which phone model you have. There are some Samsung Galaxy phone lines that do not have Swype keyboard as a feature for their mobile phones. Many people are complaining about the lack of this feature on their phone. Some of these phones are coming from the North American market or from North American network carriers, and they have limited the features of the phone for some reason. Some of their choices are based on customer surveys.

Due to the lack of certain features being limited on some phones, you can simply download the application from your Google Play store. Search for the application called: Swype Keyboard. This keyboard will help you have Swype on your mobile phone. You can check out the application from this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nuance.swype.trial This app is free, while others will cost you. If the app is free, the options will be limited – encouraging you to purchase it will all the functions available.

When I am using Swype – only when I'm using Swype, I have a red symbol on the space bar of my Samsung Galaxy Y. Why?

I have a red symbol on the corner of the space bar of my Samsung Galaxy Y, but only when using Swype.

This red symbol means the auto-space feature is disabled. When enabled, Swype will automatically enter a space after you Swype a word. Try these steps to enable auto-spacing.

  • Open an SMS or messaging application and create a new message.
  • When your keyboard opens, tap and hold the "Swype" button (looks like a blue 'S' with an 'I' over it).
  • This will open Settings.
  • Make sure the checkbox next to the auto-spacing option has a check mark.

OR

  • From your home menu, tap "Applications".
  • Tap "Settings".
  • Find and tap "Language & Keyboard".
  • Tap Swype.
  • Scroll to find the auto-spacing option, and make sure the checkbox is enabled.

Can I limit dictionary search to one language?

I have 4 languages I use with Swype when I send emails, SMS, etc. On my old Samsung Galaxy Note, I would select the Input Language within my SMS application e.g. English (UK)) and then start to Swype. It would give me a variety of dictionary words (predicted words) that I could choose from in that language. Now I have a new phone (Samsung Galaxy Note3). Even though I have a language selected (e.g. French) for writing an SMS, the predictive text in the dictionary above the keyboard prompts words from all of my phone's languages. It's really unhelpful: if I am writing in French, I want French words to be prompted, not German or English ones. Can I limit the language that this dictionary links to? Thank you.

My Note3 does not remember words I use regularly that aren't in the dictionary.

Swype works on my Note3, but it does not remember words I have installed. I read a forum that said I should reinstall Swype, which I cannot find. The VisiHow site suggested setting up Swype and while Swype seems to work, it has not listed an input type as per the screen shot. I only have Samsung Keyboard listed not Swype with Dragon tails. Also it is not under settings\device as per the screenshots, it is in settings\general. Thanks
