Hello and welcome to VisiHow. In this video, we are going to show you how to set up the News application when using a Microsoft Lumia 535.
To begin, turn the phone on by pressing the power button located on the right-hand side of the phone.
Swipe the lock screen up to reveal the home screen.
Find the "News" tile on the home screen.
The tile's appearance may vary, as it will provide different news stories throughout the day. If it is not on the home screen, swipe to the left to open the App menu, and scroll to find the News application there.
Press the tile to open the application.
The "Welcome" page appears first, along with a message asking if we would like to receive breaking news alerts.
Choose Yes or No by swiping across the switch on the right side of the screen.
Press the "done" button at the bottom right of the screen to confirm any changes.
The News application will now open.
Swipe across from right to left to see the "headlines" and "Top Stories" page.
Press the ellipsis, or three dots, at the bottom right corner of the screen to reveal more options.
Just above this list of options are two icons, "reorder" and "edit".
Tap the "reorder" icon to change the order of the types of headlines.
Move whatever type of news is most important to you to the top.
Double tap on a news topic.
This will bring up top stories related to that particular subject.
Swipe across to the right to bring up the "sources" screen.
Press the ellipsis at the bottom right of this screen to bring up additional options, including icons to edit and search.
Tap on the edit icon, the pencil, at the bottom of the screen to follow particular news sources of interest.
Scroll down on the list of different news sources, and click the checkbox to the left of those you want to follow.
To search for a news source not in the list, tap the "Search" box at the top of the screen.
Tap the ellipsis at the bottom right.
Then tap on the "region" icon on the right, which is a gridded sphere.
Choose a region from the list to find other news outlets.
Press the left-facing arrow at the bottom left of the screen to go back.
Tap the house icon at the bottom of the screen to return to the main screen of the News application.
Scroll across from right to left once to see "headlines", as mentioned before, and again to see "sources", which was also discussed previously.
To reorder the sources, tap the first icon at the bottom of the screen.
The icon has two up and down arrows on it.
Swipe across to the right from the "sources" screen to reach "topics".
Tap the plus sign at the bottom of the screen to add a topic of interest.
This will also bring up the option to search for a topic. Type in a subject, and press the arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen.
A list of "topics" concerning that subject will appear.
We can edit this topic or add new ones by pressing the plus sign at the bottom of the screen.
If more than one topic has been added, these topics can be rearranged by tapping the reorder icon with two arrows at the bottom of the screen.
Scroll to the right once more to see "videos" of current news stories.
This concludes the tutorial on how to activate and set up the News application when using a Microsoft Lumia 535.
