Tips, Tricks and Warnings

  • Usually, a resume is 2 pages. If you make it 3 pages, make it worth reading.
  • You can make a better impression by creating a professional portfolio of your awards, certificates, credentials, and other commendations you received if you have any published material.
  • Customize your resume according to the schools you're applying to. Some schools tend to be sensitive on certain issues, such as religion and race. Leave out your affiliations if you know that the school has certain leanings against what you personally adhere to.
  • Create a brief, efficient resume that highlights your education and work experiences related to the position you're pursuing. Some schools will keep your resume on file, and will require a more elaborate version, should they contact you when a vacancy occurs.
  • Don't be overly artistic in creating a principal's resume. Reserve your graphics, special fonts, bright colors, and scented stationery for your art projects. You have to be at your professional best, starting with the resume.
  • Build up a strong opening statement. Once you get the attention of the recruiters, they won't put down your resume until they've read every word of it.
