Restore factory settings because of problems with Samsung Galaxy S3?

Hi there, My Samsung Galaxy S3 will not alert me to text messages unless I physically click on the text message icon. I have been advised that the best way to remedy this is to restore the factory settings of the phone. However, before I do this, I would like to save all the data on my phone, such as memo's, music, etc.

I have just downloaded Kies on my Laptop (not this PC) and was attempting to transfer my files when this popped up on my screen. would you please be able to give me a step by step methodology of how to save all my data so that I can reset the factory settings of the phone without losing my data.

As I understand the problem that you are having on your phone. You are not able to get text messages notification unless you are going to launch your messaging App. As per you said that the only way to resolve it is by doing a Factory Reset on your phone and you also have a Samsung Kies on your computer.

In order for you to save your data from being deleted, you can use your Samsung Kies to make a backup and restore it after you reset the phone. See the steps below on how you can back up your phone to a computer:

1. Connect the phone to the computer via USB cord.

2. Launch your Samsung Kies program on your computer and wait until the Kies recognized the phone.

3. You will find there tabs on screen and hit on back up and restore then select the items that you wanted. The list will be on screen and click the back up. All of the files that you selected on the phone will be saved on your computer and you can restore them after the reset.

Making a backup should only take 5 minutes or less. However, this would depend to how large the files that you are backing up on your computer. Do not disconnect the phone while processing as it can cause data corruption.

You will need to do the following to make sure that you back up your phone correctly:

  • connect your phone to your computer
  • open the Kies program on your computer
  • go to the Backup/Restore tab on Kies
  • check the items you wish to backup
  • click Backup to start saving the checked items
  • you will also see the destination folder at the bottom of the backup/restore screen

NOTE: Kies 2.5.3 do not support app backup anymore. It will now only backup your data like S Memo.

Once you are finished with doing a backup, you can now restore it to factory settings by dialing: *2767*3855#

NOTE: Remove SIM card and SD card before doing the Factory Reset

As I understand your question that you wanted to download media files from your phone. Such as music files, videos and any other media files that you can think of. This would depend to the website that you went in to to check some of those if they support direct download for your phone. If you want to download videos using your phone, you can try the following applications:
