First, try restarting your Samsung Galaxy S4. Follow the instructions below to perform a soft reset on your phone:

  • Hold the power button for 10-20 seconds until it turns off. Release the button.
  • Press the button until you feel a vibration.
  • Your phone will turn on.

This should take care of your phone's freezing issue. You will then be able to retrieve your information by connecting your phone to Samsung Kies on your computer. If the soft reset doesn't fix your problem and you are still suffering from a frozen phone, you unfortunately will not be able to retrieve your information unless you stored it on an SD card, which you can just remove from the phone and plug into your computer. You will have to perform a Factory Reset on your device to fix the freezing issue, which will wipe all of your phone's data. To learn how to perform a proper Factory Reset on your Samsung Galaxy S4, you can read through the VisiHow guide below, or this one to learn more about the factory reset process. If the Factory Reset does not fix your phone's freezing issue, you will need to contact Samsung's customer support line to troubleshoot your phone's problem with a customer service representative; your phone may be suffering from a hardware malfunction, and the customer service representative will be able to schedule a repair or replacement for your device.
