To take the headphones out, it is the same situation.
Instead of using your index finger at the top, place your pinky finger at the bottom of the phone, and pull. The reason for this is to prevent throwing or dropping the phone.

Never pull the headphones by the cable.
This will damage them and they will stop working. Always hold the little base and pull. It is fairly easy to push them in and out, so it is not a big concern.

If lint or fuzz gets into the headphone jack, the easiest thing to do is blow into the jack.
However, make sure your mouth is dry before doing so. That is a quick way to get lint out. Another way is to use a hair dryer or compressed air.
