You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we will show you how to play Legend of Grimrock on your iPhone 6. For the first part, we're going to discuss downloading and installing the application.
Navigate to the App Store
This is a blue icon with a white letter "A" made up of artists' tools. It's labeled "App Store". Press the icon one time. The App Store will open up and we will be taken to the main section. Let's do a search.
Tap on the button to the right of the game title and icon
On our phone, it says "OPEN", as we've already downloaded it. If we hadn't, it might say "GET" or "INSTALL". Whatever it says, go ahead and tap it. Once that process has initiated, the download will start. Once the game has installed, the button will say "OPEN".
The next option we have is creating characters. If we choose to create characters, then that means we'll have the option of creating each individual person in the party. Finally, we have the option for "Old School Mode". This means that we will not have a map. We will need to make a map as we go along. This is something that makes the game extremely difficult, especially if used to the newer ways games tend to be, where things are often fairly easy. Since this is our first tutorial and we're getting started, we're just going to go ahead and tap "START". Later, we'll come back and demonstrate how to create characters and we'll show what "Old School Mode" looks like.
We'll be taken to the intro. It's sort of an overview of the game and how it starts and progresses. We're going to skip past the intro. For the purposes of this tutorial, we will give a quick overview of the game. Basically, our characters, or the people in our little party as we play through, have been sentenced to be locked up in Mount Grimrock. There is an underground set of tunnels and passages left by a past civilization, which will allow us to escape. The catch is, no one has ever escaped Mount Grimrock. Perhaps we will be the first. Let's go ahead and skip the intro.
Once the game starts, examine the panel on the right
We'll see that we have four characters, each represented by an icon. Whichever character is currently active will have the active option. We can move forward with the arrow buttons, or by tapping the screen.
We'll see that we've gone nowhere yet. As we go, we'll see different options that pop up. We can annotate and mark the map. We can find our current location, and scroll up and down through various map options.
Pressing sleep will allow us to sleep for awhile. It's a great way to recover health and other things for our characters. However, it is possible that we will be attacked while sleeping. We don't recommend doing it in dangerous parts of the dungeon, which is most of the dungeon.
This will give us a series of things that we can do. We can tap "RESUME" or "MENU" to go back. We can load a saved game. We can save our current game. We can tap on "STATISTICS" or "TUTORIAL" to get a quick tutorial of how to use or perform different options and functions in the game. We can tap "MAIN MENU" to go back to the main menu, which will allow us to reset options, such as making it easier or harder or creating our own party.
Tap the bar next to "In-game gyro effects" to adjust this
These options are generally personal options. They depend on handedness, on whether loud music or soft is preferred, and the same for sound effects. For our purposes, we have everything off for this tutorial.
Tap the forward-facing arrow to keep moving forward
Try and find out what's in the dungeon. We have a tutorial option that it is telling us we can do. We do recommend going through a quick walkthrough of the game's tutorial. We are giving you a quick intro to demonstrate how to get into the game and to give some ideas of what the actual game looks like. As we move through various areas, we may want to check our map.
Make sure to check out the next part of this tutorial, on equipping and un-equipping items on your characters
This will allow you to proceed more quickly and accomplish more in Legend of Grimrock for your iPhone 6. As ever, thank you for choosing VisiHow, and please make sure to leave comments, questions, or suggestions in the area below.

Choose Character Builds
You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to play Legend of Grimrock on the iPhone 6. This is part of a continuing series, and here we will show you how you can create your own characters. To do that, you're going to need to have the game open.
We have a lot of strength, but not that much dexterity. We have a lot of vitality, but not that much willpower. Minotaurs have just one skill point. Minotaurs eat a lot of food. Food is a big thing in the game. We may find constantly that we are starving and not having enough food as we play the game. This "Food Consumption +20%" is kind of a hang-up, and we want to be careful with that.
It's at the very bottom. Insectoids are little creepy crawly bugs. They start out with a little less strength and a little less vitality, but they have a lot of willpower and they have some dexterity. They make very good images because of that. They have 3 skillpoints, which is a little bit less than Humans do, but they eat less food. There is a bit of a trade-off there. We can mix and match our party as well. We could have a balance of an Insectoid as a mage, a Lizardman as a rogue, a Minotaur as another rogue or a fighter maybe, depending on what we want to do, and also, of course, our Human.
Read through the three classes available to choose from
We have "Fighter", "Mage", and "Rogue". Fighters do one of two things, basically. They either defend extremely well or fight extremely well. They have a lot of damage or a lot of defense. Mages use staves, orbs, and their own hands to create magic spells. Rogues also do two things. They either fight with ranged weapons or they fight with hand-to-hand or unarmed, which is basically on the front lines. Later, as we advance in the game, we will find that rogues are invaluable. The recommended party set-up is one fighter, one mage, and two rogues. Put one hand-to-hand rogue in the front and one ranged rogue in the back. A lot of people prefer a Minotaur for the front rogue. It all depends on personal preferences.
Traits are different things that add special abilities for us. If we're aggressive, we do lots of damage. If we're agile, we've got extra dexterity. If we're athletic, we are strong. Right now, we have "Aura" selected. This gives us extra energy. We can choose "Cold-blooded", "Evasive", etc. We can find everything down this list that we would prefer to have.
We "have unspent ability points" and are being prompted to "Start the game anyway" or go back and spend them. For this demonstration, we will tap "Yes" to go ahead and start the game. We can spend those ability points later, which we showed how to do with our first character.
This concludes our tutorial on creating your own party of characters to start off with in Legend of Grimrock for the iPhone 6

Navigate the Character Menu
You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are continuing our series on how to play Legend of Grimrock on your iPhone 6. In this section, we're going to discuss character menus and what you can do with them.
We will see the character's name at the top, and underneath, their "Experience" and the amount of "Food" that they have. Beneath this header, we have two grids. On the right, we can see any items that they are carrying and where they're held.
We can see that this one only has 42 "Health". They are essentially half as healthy as the people in the front. Our front characters are at least somewhat healthier, especially so in the case of this Minotaur guy. Make sure that the party is always set up the best way. This is especially true if we create our own party, which we demonstrated how to do in the last section of this tutorial.

Use Food and Healing
You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are going to teach you more about how to play Legend of Grimrock for your iPhone 6. In this part, we're going to talk to you about food and healing.
Look at the character portraits
In our demonstration, our characters are all a little bit damaged. There are no magic spells in the game that will heal them. Only rest and food and potions will heal them. First, we need to make sure that everybody has food.
We're done resting, and there's no more need to rest. Proceed on with the game. Just pay attention to the amount of food available, because if characters don't have food, they will begin to starve. Starving characters do not heal or regain magic. All of our magic and healing are full now.

Use Magic Spells
You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are going over Legend of Grimrock and teaching you how to play it on the iPhone 6. For now, we are going to discuss magic.
Look at the character portraits in the top right corner
In the bottom right, we have a magic user. In order to learn spells, we have to find the proper runes. Find them by exploring or by looking them up online. There are also scrolls and other things to find in-game that will teach spells. Let's do a quick overview.
The very first one is the fire rune. It's the first of the elemental runes, and what it does is destroys things. It's big on power and big on strength, and it's a requirement for any fire spell we'll ever cast. The next rune is the life rune. This rune is one that represents creation, bravery, light, and health. Any time we cast things that help the party, enchant magic items, or cast spells that might create or give off light, this will come into play. The final rune in the top row is the air rune. It's the second element. It controls air and also gases and storms. It's something that we will use for all of our air spells. We can create magic projectiles with it or clouds of poison, that type of thing. It depends on how we do it and what we have set up with it.
The first rune in this row is the rune for spirituality. This is mind and spirit. It lets us do things like pass through walls or pass by gates. The center rune is the rune of balance. It is a rune that ties all of the other ones together. It's especially important for protection spells. If we're trying to keep our party safe or make sure everyone has a magic shield around them, then that's the rune that we would be using. The rune on the end is the physicality rune. It represents strength and also the material world. It's something that increases force. We can hit harder or do more damage with that rune.
On the bottom left, we have the earth rune. This is another elemental rune. It taps into plants and the power of the earth. These are spells that move on the ground, like earthquakes, poisons, those types of things. In the center bottom is the death rune. It is the force that basically empowers all things cowardly or evil or dark or destructive. We will use this for enhancing damage or blocking things. Last, but not least, on the bottom right, we have the ice rune. This is the final element. It's the one that will control cold and water. If we're casting ice spells, we need this. If we tap each rune individually, we can see some of the spells that they may or may not have, if we have a high enough level.
We've now got two runes in a row lit up. This will be a spell that will give us some additional options. This character is not high enough for this spell either, as indicated by the question mark over the spell in the center.
Tap, hold, and drag through the bottom row of runes
This will cast ice shards when the character has the skill requirements to do so. As we continue casting spells, our level and our skill will increase. As our level and skill increases, we will be able to cast more and more spells. We will show a full list of spells in another tutorial.
Video: Play Legend of Grimrock for iPhone 6 Use Magic Spells
You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are going to show you how to play "Legend of Grimrock". Specifically, in this part, we're going to be discussing the puzzles and complexity of certain puzzles. In front of me, there is a gargoyle face with a missing eye. It had two missing eyes originally, but I put the other blue eye back into it. I'm going to show you how I figured that out.
We had found a blue gem and realized that must be one of the eyes. We began hunting and looking more and more, and we found another blue gem. We will encounter puzzles like this throughout the game where we have to interact with them. There is a variety of things we can try when we encounter a puzzle.
Hopefully, we will succeed. It's not ever a guarantee in any of these games, but one can always hope. Notice that we are tapping, and this moves in real time. If we wait, he will just continue attacking us.
Tap, hold, and drag the item from the left side to the grid on the right
This grid is for equipped items. We can see the spear on the one side. Drop the shield on the other. Now we have a much better defense. For this demonstration, we will drag the shield back to the inventory to show what that means.

You're watching VisiHow. In this tutorial, we are showing you how to play "Legend of Grimrock" for the iPhone 6. For this part, we are going to be discussing how to overcome traps. As a general rule of thumb, you will find traps, such as the one right in front of us here on the ground, throughout the game. Some of them are easy to spot and some of them are not so easy to spot. The ones that are not so easy to spot are usually the ones that will kill you, but if you're careful, you can see them. In order to avoid them, you have to figure out what to do. As a general rule of thumb, whenever you see a trap, if you look around, you'll find something.
