Welcome to VisiHow! In this video, we are going to show you how to open and save a blank Excel document when using the Microsoft Office application on the Microsoft Lumia 535.
Unlock the phone by pressing the power button located on the right-hand side of the phone.
Once the phone is activated, you will see the lock screen.
Swipe the lock screen up to get to the home screen.
On the home screen, you need to find the Microsoft Office tile. Mine is located on the home screen. The icon is an orange background with a white three-dimensional square inside. If this tile is not pinned to your home screen, then swipe left to find the Microsoft Office application in the application menu.
Once you have located the Microsoft Office tile, press down on it to enter the Office application.
In the application, go to the "recent" section. The sections are written on top in black.
If you cannot find "recent" on the screen, swipe left and right to find it.
Once you are in the "recent" section, press the icon with a black circle and a black cross at the bottom.
This icon allows you to bring up the options for new documents.
To create a new Excel document, tap "Excel" under "black document".
You will enter the Excel application. Everything you would expect to see in Microsoft Excel is here. There are the usual set-up and layout. For the tutorial, I am not going to do much in the document.
Fill in the cells for the document now.
I'll just enter "title" to get something to save. As you can see, the keypad is on the screen. To save the document, you need to hide the keypad.
To hide the keypad, press the back button located under the screen.
Pressing the button will also bring up a menu. You will see black icons at the bottom. These are the menu options.
Press down on the three dots in a line in the bottom right-hand corner.
New options will be brought up.
Locate "save" and "save as..." These obviously allow you to save the document and indicate the location to which you want to save it.
Press on "save as..." now.
You can enter the file name in the text box under "File name" by using the keypad. You will be able to delete the default name and enter a new one. The second option is "Save to" that allows you to choose the location where you are going to save this document.
Press down on the text box if you do not want to save the file to the default location.
Three options will be shown: "phone", "SD card", and "OneDrive". One of these options will be written in blue, identifying that the option has already been selected. Choose the one that suits you.
To save the document, press the "save" button located at the bottom of the screen.
The icon is a large black rectangle with the word "save". If you are saving onto OneDrive, you need the Internet access to connect to the OneDrive cloud storage and upload the file. If you do not have the Internet access, you can save your document to your phone or to your SD card. Another way to save the document is to press the back button located under the screen. If you press the back button, the application will attempt to close itself and prompt you to save the document. It is a bit risky because you never know with the Microsoft Lumia 535 what exactly might happen. It is always better to go to the menu by pressing the three black dots in a line and save the Excel document directly rather than to save it when trying to exit the program.
