My son got an in-town speeding ticket while away at college?

Hi, my son is a freshman at App State in NC and got a speeding ticket in Boone, NC. His count date was this past Friday. He took an on-line class and showed up on-time at court. He told "no court in session today" and told to come back on 12/3. I think he should be able to write a letter state this and along with his on-line course, get the ticket dropped.. I have tried: He took an on-line class for NC, he appeared at count to plead not guilty. I think it was caused by: He was helping some college friends to drive them as designated driver. No DWI here. Court date changed with no notification to him
