You can still use your Note3 as a tethering device to your Laptop for data sharing. You'll have to use USB tethering instead of a wireless method.

Make sure you have the hotspot plan subscribed through your mobile carrier. Go into your phone's Settings>Wireless and Networks>Tethering a Portable Hotspot and turn on the USB Tethering option, as seen here:

If your Laptop has a built in wireless adapter, you can share its internet connection to your Note2 phone with the use of a software called Connectify. You can check out their website here

It is a paid program and does work very well. If you're looking for a free alternative, check out Virtual Router here:

Can't Access Internet through tether?

Hi Daniel - I can tether my Win7 Laptop to my Sprint GS4 but it cannot get access to the internet. The network icon in the system tray shows a yellow ! symbol.

Make sure you've enabled your data connection. Turning on your hotspot will allow you to connect your Laptop to your phone, but without enabling the phone's data connection, you will not be able to access the internet.

If that doesn't solve your issue, try restarting both devices. See if perhaps the security key you entered on your Laptop doesn't match the one on your phone's hotspot. You can also try connecting other devices to your hotspot, or your Laptop to another phone. See if you can isolate which device is causing the problem, and work from there.

Hi, I've got a Samsung Galaxy Note2 LTE and I wanted to link my phone to use the internet signal of my home router.

My home routers name has come up in the list of available networks but it is secured. when I tap on this it asks me for the password. I've looked on the underside of my router and there are lots of different potential passwords... is it...the code on a sticker, wireless key or Access key or WiFi numbers setup or mac number or GN number or SN number. Hope you could shed some light on this as I'm told it will put up a wall if you try too many incorrect passwords, thanks.
