Manage Notifications for Google Inbox on an iPhone 6
Edited by Grimm, Sid Bedekar, Eng, Anonymous
You are watching VisiHow and today, we are going to show you how to turn off or turn on the notifications and badge icons on your Google Inbox email.
Let us give a quick press to the lock button.
This will bring up our lock screen.
A single swipe across your lock screen will let you enter in your pass code.
Alternatively, you can use your thumb or fingerprint on the home button to open up the phone. I am going to enter in 1-2-3-4 which I have on good authority. It is an unbreakable pass code. At least that is what I think.
So now, I am going to go to the Settings icon.
It is a little gray box with a series of three gears. It says "Settings" underneath of it. Give it a quick tap. It is going to open up the Settings menu.
Once we are on Settings, we are going to scroll to Notifications and we are going to tap the Notifications icon.
I am looking for Google Inbox so I am going to scroll down until I see "Inbox".
Here is Inbox. Let us give it a quick tap.
Once I tap Google Inbox, I will have a number of different, cool, and amazing things I can do to get my notifications set up, turned on or turned off.
To start off with, this will show me notifications on the lock screen. Everything is green so that we can start off by showing you the whole set.
Now, allow notifications means that the phone will allow me to receive notifications.
Then, I can select the specific types of notifications that I will receive.
If I turn this off, then there will be no notifications sent at all no matter what I may have previously selected.
When I turn it back on, anything I had selected previously will once more come up.
So, let us start off with the badges. We have our Notifications Center which tells me how many items will be shown in the notifications center.
If I tap this, I can choose "No Recent Items", "1 Recent Item", "5 Recent Items " or "10 Recent Items".
This means that on my notifications center - which is accessed by swiping down - you can see 5 notifications.
I have 5 recent items shown in my inbox. Now let us swipe back up to close that. If I change that to 10, then you would have seen 10 recent items on my inbox.
Sounds lets me choose whether or not I have a sound when I receive a notification.
The sounds option is set in another area and we have a video on VisiHow which you can find that will tell you how to change the sounds on your iPhone 6.
Badge application icon.
Let us give this one press to turn it off.
And now, if I press my home button - because I want to demonstrate this to you.
You can see that I do not see any inbox items.
Now if I give a quick double press to my home button.
I can just go right back where I was and open my settings folder back up.
Now I can turn Badge application icons on and now let us give the home button another press.
Now, you can see that I have 185 unread messages.
So let us give the home button another double press and then tap on the page you were on.
Settings will be brought back up.
I can choose to show notifications on my lock screen.
What this means is that when I am on the lock screen of my phone.
Let us push the lock screen button. Now I am on the lock screen. When I press the home button or the lock button, my lock screen comes up. If I have received any new emails or messages, they will show up here. Otherwise, I can simply slide to unlock and enter that amazingly complex pass code again.
Now finally, we have the alerts which show up.
There are three different options. You have none which is currently selected as you can see by the oval around it. This means that there will be no icon.
Banners means that at the very top of the phone, a little alert will pop up and say "Hi,, you have received a message".
Alert is a full blown message that pops up in the middle of the screen and says "You have received an email" or whatever it may happen to be in your inbox.
You will have the option to tap close or to go to that actual message.
I am going to choose none because I use my email everyday.
I do not actually need to be notified every time I get a new message and I am also going to turn off the Badge app icon because it can be a bit depressing when you wake up in the morning and realize that you have a 185 unread messages from the day before. These are unread messages that Google has decided are not actually spam.
Then, you will tap back on Notifications.
You will tap back on Settings. Then you will press the home button one time.
Then you will do two quick presses on the home button to close this so that you are not needlessly wasting battery power and you have nothing else open.
Then you will tap here on the home screen and now we are back to the home screen.
This concludes our tutorial on how to turn on or turn off notification icons on the Google Inbox application.
