Make a bootable Windows 7 USB flash drive installer

Edited by Adrian Penaflor, Charmed, Lynn, Eng and 15 others

Microsoft has provided us a way to download their Windows 7 ISO images (32-bit and 64-bit). You can download them free of charge and you have the option to copy/burn them either through a USB flash drive or DVD media. You can make a bootable Windows 7 USB flash drive installer using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool that was created by Microsoft. You might find this information very useful if you are going to install a fresh copy of Windows 7, or perhaps repair or upgrade your current operating system on a PC/Laptop without a DVD drive.

Is this a safe way to duel boot win7 and ubuntu?

I'm trying to partition a SSD with Ubuntu and Win7 with a second HDD as my primary storage device. Any tips?

Yes it is a safe way for dual booting using Ubuntu and Windows 7. Well, to be able to boot from them both you should try installing the Windows 7 first and set as primary, and then Ubuntu at your designated partition. Then, while doing some partition always take note the letters of the partitions that you want to install the Ubuntu in order to avoid formatting the wrong drive.

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

Set up the Windows 7 first. While setting up the Windows 7 make sure to partition a section for the Ubuntu. Then just boot the computer up with the Ubuntu start-up disk you can create. Just select unused partition while installing it

  • If you prefer to download an ISO Windows 7/8/8.1, Please see the links provided in this article.
  • Then get a USB flash drive with 4GB or higher storage capacity, then connect it to your PC. This will be formatted so if you have important files on it, please move it to your other storage device.
  • Now, open Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool.
  • Click Browse button, then locate and select the Windows 7/8/8.1 ISO file on your PC, then hit next.

Why while Windows 7 USB/DVD Downloader not recognize my ISO file?

I am trying to reinstall Windows but the ISO I have downloaded (x17-58997) is not considered by Windows 7 USB/DVD downloader to be a valid ISO file. I am stuck with how to burn or mount this CD image.

Was this helpful? Yes | No | I need help

Use a free program called imgburn to burn the ISO image file as a bootable Windows disc. You can find the program download here:

http://www.imgburn.com/

Once installed, open the program and choose the Write image file to disc option. Make sure when you open the ISO/image file to check the box Make Image Bootable, as seen here:

http://screencast.com/t/arAPEQW9BPy9

Put in a blank writable disc into your burner drive and burn the image. When the process is done, also make sure to set your optical drive to boot first in the BIOS settings. Insert the disc and reboot the computer to start the Windows install process.

I need step by step instruction on how to download Windows 7 home premium 64bit to a USB flash drive?

I do not know where to look for the file once its downloaded

If you are downloading the burnable image file, the format should be .ISO. You can download the Windows 7 premium 64bit version here:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/windows-7-home-premium-64bit-iso-download/709dcc12-d120-435d-91cd-52e1dd0f4c24

It's one large .ISO file which you will need to burn onto a DVD-r/DVD-rw disc. Once you have the ISO file downloaded, you can burn it using image burn software or follow the VisiHow guide on how to make a bootable USB flash drive from it.

Recovering or removing Admin Account password?

I put a password on the admin account a while back and I cannot remember the password. I tried some methods using command prompt but it keeps saying access is denied.

You need to follow the link that allows you to retrieve the forgotten password. Normally, it will lead you to other security profiles that you have set at the beginning. If even those you cannot remember, you may really have a hard time accessing it. However, if you can remember that, then it should be no problem and you will be able to reset your password accordingly.

How does one perform a clean install specifically in UEFI mode?

I am running Win7 Pro sp1 on a Dell Latitude 6430 -E family. Th BIOS ver. is Dell A 16. In setup the boot sequence has disappeared in UEFI mode therefore it is missing from the (F/12) boot device choices list. Legacy mode works fine but I am limited to x86 32 bit programs. I have learned it maybe a partition issue. Several months ago the recovery partition and a 3rd. disappeared; however, I did not have a problem with UEFI mode boots for some time. I learned that a clean install is necessary, of course with the partitions pre-set. The installation must be done in UEFI mode. I have another 2.5" HDD and I can pre-set the partitions but, how do I install in "UEFI mode" when I have to boot from the Windows installation disc?

I would love your assistance or help with our non-booting computer?

Hi, I am trying to fix our Gateway all-in-one PC. The OS was Windows 7 Home Premium. It crashed a number of times due to power problems. The restore DVD that I made somehow became corrupted? I have in the meantime installed Ubuntu. I think the version is 12.04 or 13, anyway we had another power problem, though this time we lost our boot partition and the computer dropped off the desk damaging the DVD drive during the earthquake the other night. I need the computer working ASAP. However, there is a lot of data I need to keep if possible, In addition we have a painfully slow internet connection. If I can do this with Ubuntu great if not I want to go back to Win 7 Home Premium. I have a valid key that came with the PC. Sorry for the long story. but that is about the sum of it. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
