Unfortunately, Windows Media Player only allow transferring of music files from PC to Phone. To transfer music files from your Samsung Galaxy S4 to your PC, please use Samsung Kies instead. Please do the following.

  • Connect your Samsung Galaxy S4 to your computer, using the USB cable.
  • Open Samsung Kies.
  • Your phone will automatically detected by Samsung Kies.
  • You can now transfer music files from your phone to your computer and vice versa.

You may also do the drag and drop method using Windows Explorer. Please do the following.

  • Connect your Samsung Galaxy S4 to your PC, using the USB cable.
  • A new window will open on your PC.
  • Click on the option "Open device to view files".
  • Navigate to the folder where your downloaded music files are located.
  • You can now drag the music file from your phone and drop it on your PC.
  • That's it. You can now add the music files you have transferred to your PC on your Windows Media Player's music library.

Can't get pictures off phone to PC?

Downloaded Kies 3 connected phone get failed to connect the device. connection or use may be restricted if device access (including writing) is prohibited by your computer's security program or for any other reason. the next screen says device connection using a USB media device is set to MTP then something about device recovery. Have had nothing but issues with phone since Kitkat upgrade

If your phone's USB connection type is set to MTP, then you might want to consider changing it to Camera mode in order to transfer your pictures. The next time you connect the phone to your PC, drag down the notification bar on your phone and hit the USB PC connection option. Here, check the box for Camera (PTP). See screen here:

Why cannot I connect to get music?

You will need to manually get the music file (mp3) on your phone's app folder (on your phone's file manager)while being connected to your computer. Once copied, you can now paste them on another folder in your computer.

I have Windows XP and a Laptop windows7. I am able to open the folder and see all the other folders like picture and stuff but I cannot see those things on Windows XP it only says if I want to perform the action with Windows media player
