I only have one place for adding an SD card and it is the SIM card slot. How do I add addition memory?. I have tried: Took back off and looked to find only one "port" that contained the SIM card

Your phone only has one port and therefore can only accept one memory card, so you might as well choose a memory card that has much storage on it as possible. The Galaxy S5 is capable of accepting a microSD card that can hold up to 128GB of additional storage on your phone. If the SIM card that you currently have inside your phone has that much memory then you have no room for additional storage. Once installed you can then begin moving your apps and files from your phone memory to your SIM card.

It is best if you find a computer to format the microSD card. Take the microSD card, place it into an adapter that will allow you to insert the card into the card reader of the computer, and make sure that the read-only switch on the adapter is in the unlocked position. Press the Windows key and type "disk management". Press "Enter". Your microSD card will be shown as a drive. Right-click it and select "Format..." You can pick any "Allocation unit size" (the lower, the better), but the "File system" value should be either "exFAT" (better) or "FAT32" (worse). Click "Start". After the process has been finished, you can safely remove the microSD card and insert it into the phone.
