I have a Galaxy S2. want to watch Netflix on a HDMI TV?

I have a Galaxy S2. I went to radio shack and they sold me an AUVO MHL Adapter to connect to a TV so I can watch Netflix on my TV. I followed the directions and nothing appears on the television when it is set to HDMI. Can you help me? Thanks a bunch!

The person from Radio Shack sold you the wrong adapter. The Auvio MHL HDMI adapter is the newer standard that works on the Galaxy S3 and Note2. You will need the older 1.0 version MHL adapter for the Galaxy S2. Check out the correct version here

I have a smart Samsung TV & a Galaxy Tablet. I got a cable & connected it, turned it on, put it to the correct source but on the screen it says to check the settings of source device. What does that mean?

I am not sure which cable that you have that you connected to your Tablet and your Samsung Smart TV. I assume that this is an MHL Adapter for you to connect your Tablet to the TV and get it mirrored. However, it keeps on saying that you need to check the settings of the source device.

If you purchased a Samsung adapter as well, you need to consider that it has compatibility as well. Which not all Samsung models will work for it, this could be the reason why you keep on getting the message on your Tablet. The Samsung MHL adapter is only compatible with the following tablets:

Samsung Galaxy Note® 8.0 (WiFi)

Samsung Galaxy Note® 8.0 (WiFi), Brown Black

Samsung Galaxy Note® Pro 12.2 32GB (Verizon), Black

If this is a non-Samsung brand, consider also if it has a compatibility that you might need to check first from the manufacturer's website if they do have a list of compatibility of devices from Samsung line.

Also, do some troubleshooting or isolation first. Since you keep on having the same message. Try to plug it to a different HDMI port on your television and see if it does shows an on screen images. This is for you to check if there was a settings on your TV or with the HDMI port. Make sure that the cords are properly connected

Try also to connect your devices to another TV that has HDMI support for you to check if it will be mirrored that way. This is the best way for you to isolate the problem you are having and do not forget to use another HDMI cord if you have a spare.

Doing all the steps can surely make you isolate the problem why you keep on getting the same message upon connecting it to your TV. There is also a big possibility that this is only a problem with the settings that you need to adjust on your TV. Remember that MHL cable is a plug and play device that does not have any configuration but then again, consider compatibility.

The new Samsung S2 8inch connecting via HDMI to TV?

Will this display the content in 4:3 aspect ratio - if so, does that mean that there will be dark strips either side (to left and right) of picture? Thanks.

It depends on the aspect ratio of the television set. With 4:3 television sets, you will not see any dark strips in the landscape mode. With film-oriented 16:9, 16:10, 2.35:1, etc., television sets, there will be dark strips to the left and right of the image in both landscape and portrait modes.
